2023: Helped lead AUM to a fifth-place team finish at the GSC Championships…part of a squad that made six appearances in USTFCCCA’s weekly South Region rankings and finished the year ranked No. 8 in the region…also helped lead AUM to its highest-ever finish at the NCAA South Region Championships (8th)…raced in all six competitions for AUM…earned the program’s first All-Region honor and was the first freshman to cross the finish line at the NCAA Championships…also named Freshman of the Year in the GSC, the first such honor for an AUM runner…earned the program’s fourth All-GSC…broke the 25-minute mark three times on the year…turned in school record times in the 5K, 8K, and 10K for the Warhawks…finished inside the Top 10 individually twice, and inside the Top 25 in five races.

PREP: Named an All-Region runner in the 3K at St. Johns High School - Keringet...holds the region record in the 3K and 5K.

PERSONAL: Full name Basil Kipyegon Koech...son of Richard Koech and Cherono Tonui...has six sisters, Mercy, Faith, Ashah, Fridah, Sonia, and Nicole...Sisters Mercy, Ashah, and Fridah all ran cross country and track and field at NCAA Division I Norfolk State University...majoring in computer science.
