JACKSON, Tenn. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team snapped a 12-game losing streak Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Union University as freshman
Jacob Bergengren tallied a career-high 14 saves.
NOTES
• AUM improved to 3-13 on the year, while Union fell to 5-11.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Bergengren marked a career-high 14 saves in the match, with 10 in the second half.
• Junior
Michael Hettler tallied his second goal of the year with his only shot for the match on a free-kick.
• Senior
Alan Harwell picked up his fourth goal of the season on four shots with two being on frame.
• Freshman
Simon Van Rheeden added his first assist of the year, and finished the match with four shots and put two on frame.
• Sophomores
Nick Davis and
Nino Bozesan each added three shots with one being on frame.
• Robel Dent led the way for the Bulldogs tallying the only goal on three shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM took an early lead nine minutes into the match on a free-kick from Hettler, which was placed into the lower left corner to put the Warhawks ahead 1-0.
• AUM held the 1-0 lead at the break, as Bergengren picked up four key saves in goal for the Warhawks.
• AUM scored its second goal of the match four minutes after the break, as a loose ball in the box found the feet of Harwell who placed the deflection into the lower left corner to put the Warhawks up 2-0.
• Just over a minute later, Union responded with its lone goal of the night on a set-piece from Fletcher found the feet of Dent to make the score 2-1.
• Bergengren locked down the goal tallying 10 saves the rest of the half to ensure the 2-1 victory for the Warhawks, and also snap the 12-game losing streak.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 16 shots, and put eight on frame. The Warhawks outshot the Bulldogs 9-6 in the first half.
• Union finished the match with 25 shots, and put 15 on frame.
• AUM tallied one corner kick in the match. Union finished the match with nine.
• Union totaled six saves on the night, while AUM picked up 14.
