Harwell’s Heroics in Overtime Lift Men’s Soccer over Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team defeated Christian Brothers University 2-1 Saturday night as senior Alan Harwell provided the game-winning goal in overtime.
 
NOTES
• AUM improved to 4-13 on the year, while Christian Brothers fell to 8-8.  

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Harwell provided the game-winner in overtime for his second goal in two days, and team-leading fifth of the season. He finished the match with four shots, and put two on frame
• Freshman Asher Gipner tallied his first goal of his freshman campaign on a cross from sophomore Nick Davis. Gipner finished the game with two shots, and both were on frame.
• Freshman Simon Van Rheeden tallied his second assist of the year in as many days.
• Senior keeper Stephen Ingram tallied six saves in the match, including an essential save in overtime, and also did not concede a goal.
• Brendan Bennett led the way for the Buccaneers tallying the only goal on a free-kick in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Christian Brothers took an early lead six minutes into the match on a free-kick from 25-yards out as Bennett found the lower right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
• AUM tied the match at one in the 31st minute on a counter when Davis found Gipner in the box, and the freshman tallied his first goal on a strike into the lower left corner.
• AUM picked up one additional shot on frame in the first half, but the score remained locked at 1-1 heading into the break.
• In the second period of regulation, neither team was able to break the tie as the Buccaneers put three shots on frame, and the Warhawks tallied one on a shot from Harwell that was narrowly saved by the keeper.
• Four minutes into overtime, the Buccaneers fired a shot on goal that was saved by Ingram. In the 95th minute of the match, Van Rheeden found the foot of Harwell in the box, who sank the game-winner into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Warhawks the 2-1 victory in overtime.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with nine shots, and put four on frame. Both teams tallied four shots in the first half.
• Christian Brothers finished the match with 12 shots, and put seven on frame.
• AUM tallied six corner kicks in the match. Christian Brothers finished the match with eight.
• Christian Brothers totaled two saves on the night, while AUM picked up six. 
 
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Friday, Nov. 4, when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to face Emmanuel College in the Embry-Riddle Postseason Classic. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
