Women's Soccer Edges Erskine on the Road

DUE WEST, S.C. ----- The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team defeated Erskine College 1-0 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
 
NOTES
• AUM improved to 5-4-1, while Erskine fell to 3-7.  
• Freshman Ruby Mendez scored the game-winning goal for AUM.  She now has a season-total of seven goals in just 10 games.
• Senior Mandeville Wakefield tallied her first assist as a Warhawk on the goal by Mendez.  

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• To go along with her seventh goal, Mendez tallied four shots with three being on frame.
• Junior Megan Kowalski contributed to the offensive attack by adding two shots and both being on target.
• Sophomore Bronte Cintrone had four shots in the match and two of them saved by the Erskine goalkeeper.
• Junior goalie Morgan Glenn added another clean sheet by saving five Flying Fleet shot attempts.
• Abbigale Schmidt recorded seven saves for Erskine and Kayla Kieffer led the team in shots with two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM amounted six shots in the first half but were not able to beat Schmidt on any attempts.
• Finally, to break the scoreless tie, Wakefield saw an opportunity and found Mendez at the end of a pass which she was able to put in the back of the net for AUM.
• Auburn Montgomery was able to amount six more shots in the second half but the Mendez goal proved to be the game-winner.
• Thanks to two saves in the 86th and 87th minutes by Glenn, the Warhawks were able to escape with a 1-0 victory against the Flying Fleet of Erskine College.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 13 shots, and put eight on frame. Erskine ended the game with eight shots, and put five on frame.
• AUM trailed Erskine in corner kicks 6-4.  
• Erskine picked up seven saves in the match, while AUM added five.
 
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Lebanon, Tenn. to play Cumberland University at 1 p.m.
