DeRamus Posts Double-Double, but Men's Hoops Falls at Georgia Southwestern
 
AMERICUS, Ga. ------ Despite a double-double by sophomore Desmond DeRamus, the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team dropped its season opener at Georgia Southwestern 62-49 Tuesday.

NOTES
• AUM fell to 0-1 on the season.
• Georgia Southwestern picked up its first victory of the year and improved to 1-1.
• The double-double was the fourth of DeRamus' career.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• DeRamus finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four assists and a steal.
Julius McCoy finished 4-for-9 from behind the arc for 12 points. McCoy added three rebounds in the contest.
Jarett Croff also scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Romoane Eager scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. He also blocked a pair of shots.
• Brandon Price led all players with 25 points for the Hurricanes. He added four assists, a pair of rebounds, a block and a steal.
• Tyrone Wooten also scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• McCoy scored the first points of the game just four seconds in, when he gave AUM a 3-0 lead.
• After a pair of DeRamus free throws with 8:17 remaining in the first half gave the Warhawks a 15-14 lead, the Hurricanes closed the half with 16 consecutive points and took a 30-15 halftime advantage. The Warhawks missed their final 14 shots of the first half.
• The Hurricanes upped their advantage to a game-high 18 points, 47-29, on a trey by Price with 8:43 remaining.
• The Warhawks cut the margin to single digits, 58-49, on a 3-pointer by McCoy with 2:42 left in the contest. However, AUM was unable to get closer down the stretch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks were held to just 31 percent from the floor, hitting 18-of-58 shots. The Hurricanes finished 22-of-56 from the field.
• AUM struggled from distance, hitting just 4-of-24 from behind the arc.
• The Warhawks controlled the glass, outrebounding Georgia Southwestern 42-36, including 14-8 on the offensive end.
• The Hurricanes scored 17 points off 14 AUM turnovers. The Warhawks tallied just three points off turnovers.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will open the home portion of their schedule on Thursday, Nov. 17, by hosting future Gulf South Conference foe Union University at 7 p.m.
