MONTEVALLO, Ala. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team dropped a 67-52 road decision at Montevallo Saturday afternoon.
NOTES
• AUM fell to 1-9 on the season.
• The Falcons improved to 5-1 overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Desmond DeRamus scored a team-best 16 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists.
•
Julius McCoy chipped in eight points, two rebounds and a steal.
•
Jarett Croff finished with seven points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
•
Kameron Hornbuckle came off the bench and scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.
• Javonte Douglas led all players with 26 points and added eight rebounds for the Falcons.
• Talan Whitaker finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
• Tighe Oberg led all players with 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite surrendering the first four points of the contest, AUM held a 12-7 lead at the 12:00 mark of the first half, following a 3-pointer by
Romoane Eager.
• AUM maintained the lead during the duration of the first half, taking a game-high seven-point lead, 25-18, with 1:14 left in the half on a trey by
Darrion Taylor.
• The Falcons scored the final four points of the half and trailed 25-22 at halftime.
• A DeRamus 3-pointer with 16:20 remaining in the contest gave AUM a 33-27 lead. However, Montevallo scored seven straight points and took a 34-33 lead on a pair of free throws by Douglas with 13:33 left.
• The 7-0 run by the Falcons began a 17-2 spurt, capped by Douglas' free throw with 10:11 to play, giving them a 44-35 lead.
• Two more Douglas' free throws gave Montevallo a 13-point lead, 57-44, with just 5:18 remaining.
• The Warhawks closed the deficit to seven points when DeRamus stole a pass and scored on the opposite end, making the scored 59-52, with 1:57 left in the contest.
• Despite the rally, the Warhawks surrendered the games final eight points to provide the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM struggled from the field, hitting just 29 percent of its shots from the floor. The Warhawks hit 7-of-25 shots from distance and 9-of-10 free throws.
• The Falcons finished 20-of-47 from the floor, but just 3-of-13 from distance. Montevallo was also awarded 37 free throws, of which it hit 24.
• The Warhawks forced 15 turnovers, which led to 19 points. They committed 18 miscues, leading to 16 points.
• Montevallo held a 42-37 edge on the glass, while AUM outrebounded the Falcons 9-6 on the offensive glass. The Warhawks held an 11-8 lead in second chance points.
• The Falcons held a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint.
