MONTGOMERY, Ala. ------ The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team was defeated by Young Harris College Monday, 56-36, at the AUM Gymnasium.
NOTES
• AUM fell to 1-11 on the season.
• The Mountain Lions improved to 3-3 overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Kaylan Withrow scored a team-best 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and pulled down three rebounds.
•
Tyra Caudle scored nine points off the bench, while grabbing four rebounds, blocking a shot and tallying a steal.
•
Nadia Stewart finished with four points, three boards and three assists.
• Jenny Vernet tallied a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds, while adding three assists, two blocks and two steals for the Mountain Lions.
• Bria Ratliff (13), Briana Bell (13) and Meredith Tarver (10) also scored in double figures for Young Harris.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Young Harris scored the first five points of the game and opened the contest with a 10-3 spurt, capped by a Ratliff 3-pointer with 5:21 remaining in the quarter. A Withrow trey pulled the Warhawks to within four points, 10-6, with 3:13 remaining, but the Mountain Lions closed the quarter with a 7-1 run to take a 17-7 lead after one quarter.
• Withrow again moved the Warhawks to a manageable deficit, 25-19, with a 3-pointer at the 1:58 mark of the second quarter. YHC scored the next four points, but a pair of Withrow free throws provided the halftime score of 29-21.
• Young Harris outscored the Warhawks 8-6 in the third quarter, sending AUM to the final period trailing 37-27.
• The Mountain Lions opened the fourth quarter by scoring 16 of the first 18 points, upping their advantage to 53-29, before a Withrow 3-pointer with 2:53 remaining stopped the run. AUM outscored Young Harris down the stretch 7-3 to provide the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM struggled from the floor, converting just 25 percent of its shots, including 21.7 percent from behind the arc. The Warhawks also hit just 9-of-19 free throws.
• Young Harris hit 36.4 percent of its shots, including 29.4 percent from distance. YHC also made 9-of-13 free throws.
• The Warhawks committed 20 turnovers in the contest, leading to 23 Mountain Lion points. AUM turned 15 turnovers into just three points.
• The Mountain Lions held a 42-31 advantage on the glass, including a 14-9 edge on the offensive boards.
• Young Harris held a 24-10 advantage in the paint.
• The Mountain Lions' bench outscored the Warhawks 26-10.

The Warhawks will return to action Friday, Dec. 16, when they open play at the Terrace Hotel Classic, hosted by Florida Southern. AUM will take on Eckerd College at 3 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
