Double-Doubles Extend Men’s Hoops Win Streak over Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. ----- Junior Jarett Croff and sophomore Desmond DeRamus each tallied a double-double Saturday night as the men's basketball team defeated Florida Southern 99-81 on the road to improve the win-streak to three.

NOTES
• The Warhawks improved to 4-9 with the victory.
• The Mocs fell to 4-8 on the season.
• The 99 points are a season high for AUM.
• Five different Warhawks finished in double-digits.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Croff finished with a game-high 13 rebounds, and shot 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. He finished with 12 points and added three assists and a block.
• DeRamus finished with a game-high 22 points, and marked the third time this season the sophomore has scored more than 20 points, and also picked up his fourth double-double of the year with 11 boards. He added four assists and three steals.
Romoane Eager finished the night with 18 points after shooting 7-for-12 from the field, and added six rebounds with three steals, two blocks and two assists.
Darrion Taylor ended in double-digits for the eight time this season with 15 points, and added four assists with three steals.
Julius McCoy added 14 points and shot 3-for-5 from behind the arc. He also had two assists and a steal.
• Brett Hanson (13), Michael Volovic (12), Jarel Spellman (12) and LaBrian Shiflet all finished in double-digits for Florida Southern.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a layup from Spellman, and held a lead over AUM until a layup from Hornbuckle tied the game at 14 after 6:21 had passed in the first half.
• Florida Southern took back the lead, however back-to-back threes from Eager and DeRamus put the Warhawks ahead 22-20 with 11:51 remaining in the first half.
• An 8-3 run from the Warhawks was finished on an and-one opportunity from Croff, and a trey from Taylor a minute later gave the Warhawks a 33-25 lead with 8:49 left in the first half.
• The Mocs only tallied 10 points in the final nine minutes of the first half as the Warhawks led by 15 at the break, 50-35, after two successful free-throws from Croff.
• The Warhawks held a double-digit lead the entire second half, and led by 17 after a jumper from Taylor with 16:20 remaining in the game.
• A DeRamus three with 11:04 on the clock extended the Warhawk lead to 23, 72-49.
• McCoy lifted the Warhawks to a game-high 26-point lead, 98-72, with 2:30 left in the game on a three.
• Florida Southern finished the game on a 9-1 run, however the Warhawks were able to hold the double-digit lead to extend the win-streak to three with a 99-81 victory, and to finish the Florida road trip 2-0.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM converted 52.1 percent of its shots for the contest. The Warhawks also hit 12-of-15 free throw attempts.
• The Mocs converted 37.7 percent of their shots, hitting 9-of-28 from distance. Florida Southern converted 20-of-25 shots from the charity stripe.
• The Warhawks held a 45-37 advantage on the glass, including a 33-24 edge on the defensive boards. AUM converted 22 second-chance points, while Florida Southern picked up 16.
• AUM converted 21 points off 12 Florida Southern turnovers. The Mocs managed just 11 points off turnovers.
• AUM held a 36-23 advantage in the paint.
• AUM held a comfortable 44-30 edge in scoring off the bench.
