Withrow Breaks School Record for Career Threes, but Mocs Slide Past Women’s Hoops

LAKELAND, Fla. ------ Shortly after becoming the 16th member of the AUM 1,000 Point Club, senior Kaylan Withrow broke the school record of 282 career three-pointers made on Saturday afternoon.  This was not enough however as the Moccasins of Florida Southern were able to take down the Warhawks with a final tally of 97-38.

NOTES
• The Warhawks fell to 1-13 while the Mocs improved to 7-3.
• Withrow needed three three-point field goals to tie the previously standing record.  She was able to knock down four in the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Withrow led the Warhawks offensively with 16 points off the previously mentioned four three-pointers.
Grace Farnsworth recorded eight points, six rebounds and two steals.
Shanna Strain recorded three assists, a rebound and a steal off the bench.
• Camille Giardina led the way for the Mocs, recording 25 points off a 10-of-12 performance from the field.
• Giulia Simioni had a double-double for Florida Southern, collecting 11 points and 10 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks were within two points of the Mocs for most the first quarter.  It was not until a 6-0 run helped Florida Southern to an 11-point lead to end the first period of play.
• Both teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter until FSC pulled away via a 13-point unanswered run.  The Mocs went into the half with a commanding 52-20 lead.
• AUM struck first in the 3rd quarter off a layup by Farnsworth.  Unfortunately, the Mocs were quickly able to rebound and continue their offensive onslaught.  They led 81-28 at the end of the third period.
• With 8:21 remaining in the fourth quarter, Withrow hit career three-pointer number 281 to tie the school record.  Then, at the 6:09 mark, she was able to hit the inevitable record-setting three-point field goal to give herself sole-possession in the record books.  Ultimately, AUM dropped the contest to the Mocs, 97-38.

QUOTING THE COACH
"There was no hiding that today was a tough one." Head coach Dan Davis said of the contest. "It's been a tough stretch having to play 14 games in 34 days, including 11 road trips but there is no doubt we will get back out on the court and look to improve next time out.  I'm proud of the way this team has battled" Davis continued.  "I'm very proud of Kaylan for breaking the three-point record today as well.  She has been an instrumental member of this team for the last four years so seeing her accomplish another milestone was great."

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 29 when they play host to the University of West Alabama in the first leg of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Montgomery.
