Raymond Moody. Calloway scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run in the appearance.
• Rilani Familia and Juan Reyes led the Skyhawks with three hits each. Anthony Padron drove in three, while Bryce Jay scored three times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After AUM left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, the Skyhawks erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning off Moody. Point used four consecutive hits, including a RBI single by Padron, to take a 1-0 lead without having a runner retired. Christian Cabral grounded out for the first out of the inning, but Omar Smith came in to score the second run of the frame. Familia came in to score on a wild pitch, before Reyes capped the scoring with a two-run single.
• AUM chipped into the lead with a run in the second, when
Brandon Pooler dropped a single into shallow left field, allowing Rush to score.
• Point added to its lead with two runs in the second inning on a RBI double by Familia and a run-scoring single by Padron.
• The Warhawks answered with a single run in the third to pull within 7-2. Harris ripped a one-out double, before
Mac Seibert laced a two-out single up the middle, allowing him to score.
• Despite leaving six on base in the first four innings, AUM used four hits in the fifth inning to rally and tied the score at 7-7. Kelley and
Brandon Davis each singled, while Seibert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Rush connected on a two-run single to right, scoring Kelley and Davis, before a wild pitch by Skyhawk starter Dylan Griffin allowed Seibert to trot in. After Tedford was hit by a pitch and Pooler walked,
John-Mark Cosby reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Rush to score, before Kelley's single to right field allowed Tedford to score the tying run.
• The stalemate was short lived, as Point plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Jeffrey Ginn scored Padron. Padron reached and moved to second on separate errors by the Warhawks.
• The Skyhawks added a ninth run in the sixth, when Padron again scored on a groundout.
• Getting into the Point bullpen, the Warhawks scored twice in the eighth inning on sacrifice flies by Harris and pinch hitter
Trey Matherson off reliever Josh Nestlehutt. The runs were the only two allowed by Nestlehutt in four innings of work.
• Riding the arm of Gray, the Warhawks scored the deciding runs in the top of the 14th. Tedford led off the inning with a single, before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Scotty Smith. With two outs, Kelley was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Harris, who delivered an 0-2 offering to the gap in left field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The top four hitters in AUM's lineup combined to go 10-for-23 (.435) on the day, driving in six and scoring five times.
• Less than 24 hours after stranding 11 on base in their opener, the Warhawks left 15 on base in the contest. Point stranded only eight.
• AUM turned a pair of double plays, while the Skyhawks recorded one double play.
• The Warhawks committed three errors, compared to just one for Point.
• After collecting eight hits in the first three innings, AUM pitchers limited the Skyhawks to only six hits over the next 11 innings.
• The four hour, 26-minute game time and the 14-inning game are NAIA World Series records for games held in Lewiston, Idaho.
QUOTING THE WARHAWKS
• "Even if we would have lost, we would have gone out the way we ground out this entire schedule this season – there's no quit," said head coach
Marty Lovrich. "Clark put us on his shoulders, and that's what we had to have. It got towards the end, and I knew that he hadn't gone much more than two, but he had earned the right to stay in there. He got it done."
• "I've been seeing the ball well and was able to put some good wood on it," said Harris of the game-winning hit. "I'm on cloud nine, it's definitely a feeling that I've never had before. I'm looking forward to getting another one."
• "Our guys kept battling and I knew I wanted to do everything I could battle for them," Gray said. "I did my best to stay composed and let the other guys do their job behind me."
