Softball Falls to Southeastern in NAIA World Series

SIOUX CITY, Iowa ------ The No. 2 ranked and No. 2 seeded Auburn Montgomery softball team picked up seven hits on the night, but fell to No. 10 ranked and No. 10 seeded Southeastern University in the 36th annual NAIA Softball World Series 4-1 Monday night.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore Hayden Henderson finished the night on a 2-for-3 showing.
• Junior Sarah Angulo also added a 2-for-3 showing for the evening.
• Senior Taylor Powell fell to 34-4 on the year, despite not allowing a single earned run. She picked up six strikeouts in the outing, and offensively provided the only RBI for the team.
• Cat Maldonado led the way for Southeastern with a 1-for-3 performance on a three-RBI homerun in the fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to scratch a run across in the first two innings as the Warhawks left two runners on base, and the Fire stranded four.
• AUM scored first in the top of the third on a two-out single to left from Powell that plated Brinkman, who reached on a leadoff walk and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Jenkins.
• AUM held the 1-0 lead until Southeastern tied the game in the bottom of the fifth after a one out error, and two stolen bases. A groundout to short from Pietrzak played Stoltz to tie the game. Maldonado gave the Fire their first lead of the game on a three-run home run to center for a 4-1 advantage after five.
• AUM stranded two runners in the sixth, but held Southeastern to no runs in the bottom of the frame to head to the seventh down by three, 4-1.
• The Warhawks were unable to score in the final frame to give Southeastern the 4-1 decision.
