Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Eckerd

 COLUMBUS, Ga. ---- The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team fell to Eckerd College 1-0 Thursday afternoon in the 2016 season opener for both teams, which was played at Columbus State University.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman Ruby Mendez led the way for the Warhawks finishing with five shots in the game, and put three of them on frame.
• Junior Megan Kowalski also added a shot on frame for AUM.
• Sophomore Bronte Cintrone added a shot on goal as well, and senior Courtney Omodei provided the final shot for the Warhawks.
• Junior Morgan Glenn played the second half in goal for the Warhawks, and picked up eight saves.
• Monique Elliott provided the lone goal for the Tritons, and finished the game with four total shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM was held to just one shot in the first half from Kowalski, while Eckerd managed 11 with none being on frame.
• Both teams came out of the half eager to score, with a total of 24 shots being taken by both teams.  
• Eckerd picked up its lone goal of the match in the 69th minute on a long distance shot rifled into the upper right corner of the goal from Elliott.
• Mendez added all three of her shots on goal in the second half, and as the countdown rang out Mendez broke free around the keeper.
• Before Mendez was able to get the shot off, the clock hit zero and the buzzer rang as Eckerd took the 1-0 win over AUM.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Eckerd led the way in shots with a total of 28 during the match to AUM's 8. However, only nine shots for the Tritons were on frame, with the Warhawks placing five on goal.
• AUM picked up eight saves during the game to Eckerd's five.
• Eckerd edged out AUM in corner kicks with 13, as the Warhawks had one in each half.

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will travel to Valdosta, Georgia to face Valdosta State University on Sunday, Sep. 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
