Warhawks Blank Shorter 2-0 at Home

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team defeated Shorter University 2-0 Friday afternoon.
 
NOTES
• AUM improved to 3-3-1, while Shorter fell to 0-5.  
• Freshman Chelsie China put in her second goal of the season to give AUM an early and decisive lead.
• Freshman Ruby Mendez picked up her sixth goal of the season in the second half of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Mendez scored her sixth goal of the season while tallying four shots total, two being on frame.
• China notched her second collegiate goal and had three shots altogether with two being on target.
• Junior goalkeeper Morgan Glenn collected one save in each half of the match, en route to earning her second clean sheet of the season.
• Sophomore Bronte Cintrone was an offensive force all game, taking four shots with two being on frame.
• Junior Michaela Dahlin, sophomore Stella Mazzillo and freshman Allison Singleterry each added a shot on goal for Auburn Montgomery.
• Tabea Kirchner and Ashley Keller led the way offensively for Shorter, with each contributing a shot on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Following an onslaught of shots by AUM, China scored the first goal of the match in the 41st minute after the opposing keeper fumbled the ball in the box.
• Exiting the half leading 1-0, Mendez gave the Warhawks the insurance goal they were looking for in the 69th minute, extending the lead to 2-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 16 shots, putting nine on frame. Shorter ended the game with four shots, only two of which were on target.
• AUM led Shorter in corner kicks 9-6.  
• The Hawks picked up seven saves in the match, while AUM added two.


UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action Sunday, Sept. 25, when they match-up against Birmingham-Southern College at home at 1 p.m.
