SELMA, Ala. ----- Four players scored in double figures and all 11 who played scored, as the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team defeated Selma University, 98-77, Saturday on the road at Jemison-Owens Gymnasium.
NOTES
• The Warhawks improved to 5-15 on the season with the victory.
• Selma fell to 0-18 on the year.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Lafayette James-Core scored a career-best 22 points, while adding three blocks and three rebounds in the contest. James-Core bettered his previous high of 17, set earlier this season against Middle Georgia (1/9/17). He has now scored in double figures in three of his last four games.
•
Michael Bryant finished with a career-high 15 points. He chipped in three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
•
Desmond DeRamus played only 25 minutes, but finished with 13 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds.
•
Romoane Eager tallied 12 points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes.
•
Darrion Taylor chipped in nine points, while adding a team-high six assists and three rebounds.
•
Julius McCoy contributed eight points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds off the bench.
•
Kameron Hornbuckle scored seven points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots.
• Rudolph Collins led the Bulldogs with 20 points.
• David Freeman (14) and DeVante Brown (12) also scored in double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Leading 4-3 following a free throw by Selma's Kenneth Jenkins, the Warhawks erupted for 12 straight points, capped by a dunk by Eager with 14:42 remaining, to take a 16-3 lead.
• The Bulldogs pulled to within eight points, 18-8, with 12:54 left in the half, but AUM exploded for another spurt, this one a 25-6 run over a span of 7:01, to put the game out of reach. A three-point play by Hornbuckle with 5:53 remaining before halftime gave AUM a game-high 43-14 lead.
• Selma outscored the Warhawks by six down the stretch, but trailed 55-32 at halftime.
• The Bulldogs closed to within 16 points, 63-47, with 15:03 remaining in regulation, but never got closer.
• The Warhawks led by as many as 25 points on three occasions in the second half, including in the final minute when
Devonte Carter's tip-in with 20 seconds remaining upped the lead to 96-71.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted 33-of-64 shots from the field, including 10-of-26 from distance. AUM also hit 22-of-32 free throw attempts, both season highs.
• The Bulldogs were limited to just 32.3 percent from the floor, including 26.3 percent from behind the arc. Selma attempted 51 free throws, making 32.
• Selma committed 21 turnovers, leading to 26 points. AUM turned the ball over 25 times, leading to just 18 points.
• The Warhawks dominated the glass, holding a 53-33 advantage, but just a 14-12 edge on the offensive glass.
• As a team, AUM set season highs in free throws made (22), free throws attempted (32), total rebounds (53), assists (23), blocks (9) and steals (11).
