Caudle’s Double-Double Comes Up Short against Spring Hill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- Junior Tyra Caudle recorded her first double-double of the season, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds, but the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team fell to Spring Hill, 82-53, Monday at the AUM Gymnasium.

NOTES
• AUM fell to 5-15 on the year.
• The Lady Badgers improved to 9-7 this season.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Caudle finished with a season-best 10 boards, including six on the offensive end, and came up one point shy of matching her season-high with 11 points. She added an assist and a blocked shot.
Nadia Stewart finished with a team-high 18 points, a mark that matched a career high set at Georgia Southwestern on Nov. 15.
Grace Farnsworth scored 10 points and four rebounds.
• Elise Reilly led four Lady Badgers in double figures with 15 points. She added six rebounds.
• Daja Walker (14), Leah Washington (13) and Alisha Drayton-Lewis (12) also scored in double figures. Drayton-Lewis added 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Spring Hill opened the game with an 8-0 run, with Drayton-Lewis scoring four points in the opening 2:24. AUM rallied and tied the score at 12-12 following a pair of free throws by Danielle Gaines-Jordan with 3:29 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Badgers outscored the Warhawks by two down the stretch and led 19-17 after one quarter.
• The Lady Badgers opened the second quarter with a 12-4 run and extended their lead to 31-21 on a jumper by Reilly with 4:40 remaining before halftime. Spring Hill upped its lead to as many as 14 points in the second quarter, but led 40-29 at the half.
• The Warhawks cut the deficit to nine points, 47-38, following a jumper by Stewart with 4:43 remaining in the third quarter. Despite cutting the margin to single digits, Spring Hill closed the period with a 12-2 spurt and led 59-40 following three quarters.
• The Lady Badgers held the Warhawks scoreless for the final 3:29 en route to the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks finished 20-of-65 from the field, but just 1-of-21 from distance. AUM also hit 12-of-20 free throws.
• The Lady Badgers converted 49.3 percent of their shots from the floor, but just 15.4 percent from behind the arc. Spring Hill made 14-of-15 from the charity stripe.
• Spring Hill held a 55-31 advantage on the boards, including a 19-15 edge in offensive rebounds. Despite being outrebounded, the Warhawks fell just 11-10 in second-chance points.
• The Warhawks committed 16 turnovers, while forcing 23 by the Lady Badgers. However, Spring Hill held a 24-15 advantage in points off turnovers.
• Spring Hill outscored AUM 27-5 from the bench.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will return to action tomorrow evening, when they travel to Samford University for an exhibition contest at 6 p.m.
