Farnsworth Leads Women’s Hoops Past Middle Georgia in Overtime

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Grace Farnsworth scored a career-high 29 points to help the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team to a 78-76 overtime victory over visiting Middle Georgia Monday.

NOTES
• AUM improved to 4-14 on the year.
• The Knights fell to 3-8 on the season.
• The Warhawks have now won three consecutive home games.
• Farnsworth bettered her previous career-high of 27 points, set in AUM's last outing against Montevallo on Jan. 2, 2017.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Farnsworth finished 9-of-18 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from distance, and 8-of-13 from the charity stripe to reach the career-best total. She added eight rebounds, a block and four steals.
Kaylan Withrow moved into seventh all-time on the AUM career scoring list after finishing with 19 points. She added five rebounds and two assists in the victory.
Chandler Sutton scored nine points, pulled down four rebounds, tallied five steals and dished out three assists in 26 minutes off the bench.
Danielle Gaines-Jordan came off the bench to scored six points and pull down five rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
• TyAsia Grayer posted a double-double for the Knights, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
• Shaketa Hodges (18), Kianna Delas (13) and Tasicianna Taylor (12) also scored in double figures for Middle Georgia.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a Farnsworth free throw with 4:01 left in the first quarter evened the scored at 10-10, the Warhawks closed the quarter with a 9-0 run and took a 19-10 lead after one quarter. Withrow fueled the spurt with five points.
• AUM took its largest lead of the game, 23-12, following a pair of free throws by Farnsworth with 7:50 left in the half. The Warhawks led by 10 points, 33-23, with 3:54 remaining, but the Knights scored the final 10 points of the quarter and tied the contest at 33-33 at the half on a Hodges 3-pointer with 1.8 remaining in the half.
• Tied at 39-39 with 7:19 left in the third quarter, MGSU opened up a game-high 12-point lead following a 12-0 run, capped by a Tasicianna layup with 1:58 remaining. However, the Warhawks closed the quarter with a 7-2 spurt and pulled to within 53-46 after three quarters.
• The Knights held a 10-point advantage, 64-54, following a trey by Keiana Robbins with 4:56 remaining in regulation, but the Warhawks erupted for 13 consecutive points, with seven coming from Farnsworth, to take a three-point lead, 67-64, with 11 seconds remaining. MGSU's Hodges drained a desperation 3-pointer from the corner with 3.8 to play to force overtime and end regulation tied at 67-67.
• The overtime period featured four ties and no more than a three-point advantage, before Gaines-Jordan put in a layup with 29 seconds remaining for the eventual game winner.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted 26-of-65 shots from the floor, including 8-of-28 from behind the arc. AUM finished 18-of-28 from the free throw line.
• Middle Georgia finished 28-of-77 from the field, but just 6-of-30 from distance. The Knights hit 14-of-20 free throw attempts.
• Both teams committed 22 miscues each. However, AUM held a 27-13 advantage in points off turnovers.
• The Knights held a 50-43 advantage on the glass, including a 19-11 edge on the offensive boards. MGSU finished with 13 second-chance points, compared to 12 by the Warhawks.
• Middle Georgia held a 34-28 advantage in the paint.

The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Selma University at 2 p.m.
