MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Behind a superior service game and a dominant outing at the net, the Auburn Montgomery volleyball team defeated Tuskegee University on Tuesday evening 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-12).
NOTES
• AUM improves to 8-11 on the season.
• Tuskegee drops to 4-18
• As a team, the Warhawks boasted 12 service aces and 10 blocks, both program records.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Redshirt freshman middle blocker
Jaylyn Felder had a career-night, setting her personal-best in blocks and service aces with five and three, respectively.
• Junior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin led the offense with seven kills on a .583 hitting percentage while adding three assisted blocks.
• Junior setter
Carly Smart quarterbacked the Warhawks with 16 assists and assisted on two blocks while adding a service ace.
• Redshirt junior right-side hitter
Kheala Roberts anchored the defense with seven digs and added five kills, three blocks (two solo, one assisted) plus three service aces.
• Sophomore defensive specialist
Haley Toler and freshman outside hitter
Skylar Coppinger each served multiple aces with two apiece.
• For the Golden Tigers, Crystal Hall had seven kills while Brianna Fisher recorded 16 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tuskegee scored the opening two points of the contest to take the early lead, but a 12-2 stretch for AUM put the Warhawks ahead 12-4. The Golden Tigers ended the run with back-to-back points before a 5-1 retort created a double-digit AUM advantage at 17-7.
• The two sides exchanged the opening 20 points of the second set, seeing a tied 10-10 score before a 9-1 run by AUM made it 19-11.
• AUM held Tuskegee to a match-low -.148 hitting percentage in the third stanza to secure the sweep. The Warhawks scored the opening three points and never trailed.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 23 kills on a .293 hitting percentage versus 18 on a -.132 clip for Tuskegee
• The Warhawks held a slim 27-26 advantage in digs.
• AUM won the battle at the net with 10 blocks while TU posted two.
• The Warhawks boasted 12 service aces against four for the Golden Tigers
