MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win against Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Soccer Complex.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 5-8 with a 4-6 record in GSC play. Shorter falls to 1-11-1 with a 0-10 mark in GSC play.
• Goalkeepers
Felicia Wester and
Morgan Glenn both contributed to the AUM shutout.
• The Warhawks have now won three of their last four home games.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior midfielder
Agnes Edlund recorded a goal and two assists in the winning effort for the Warhawks.
• Shorter forward Corrie Thomas recorded four shots on goal for the Hawks.
• Sophomore forward
Ruby Mendez tallied her eighth and ninth goal of the year in the 47
th and 65
th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM controlled the pitch for the majority of the first half, however both sides had quality chances in the first 20 minutes of the match.
• The Warhawks got on the board first in the 25
th minute when Edlund netted her first goal of the year. Shorter failed to clear a ball in the box and Edlund beat the keeper to the left.
• The Warhawks found the back of the net early into the second half when Mendez netted her eighth goal of the year in the 47
th minute beating the keeper with a blast from 25 yards out that hit the upper right 90.
• Mendez found the back of the net again in the 65
th minute to put the game on ice for the Warhawks, taking a cross from Edlund that hit the crossbar, then deflected to the feet of Mendez who slotted the ball past the keeper's left side.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 21 shots, with nine on target. Shorter finished the game with 14 shots with four on frame.
• Shorter led AUM in corner kicks 5-4.
• The Hawks recorded six saves while the Warhawks picked up four.
