AUM Drops Hard Fought Battle at #20 Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on the road to Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College Saturday afternoon thanks to a goal in the 90th minute from the Lady Choctaws.   
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 6-9 with a 5-7 record in GSC play.
• Mississippi College improves to 12-2-1 with aa 11-2 mark in GSC play.


STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore forward Ruby Mendez recorded a goal and an assist during the match for AUM. She now has a career high 12 goals this season
• Freshman striker Stine Svaerke netted her sixth goal of the season.
• MC forward Holly Pascoe netted two goals in the match for the Lady Choctaws.
• Lady Choctaw forward Katie Taylor scored the game winning goal for Mississippi College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After Mississippi College dominated the first 10 minutes of the game, Svaerke found the back of the net for the Warhawks in the 11th minute to give AUM a 1-0 lead.  
• The Warhawks were able to hang on to their 1-0 lead at half as they fought off a number of Lady Choctaw attacks to end the first half.  
• The Lady Choctaws wasted no time at all tying the game in the second half as Pascoe scored just 43 seconds into the second half to tie the game at 1-1.   
• Mendez put the Warhawks back on top in the 52nd minute of the match when she capitalized on a misplayed header by the Lady Choctaws and slotted the ball past the keeper to give AUM the lead.
• Pascoe scored her second goal of the game just seven minutes later in the 59th minute to even up the score at 2-2.
• MC's Taylor gave the Choctaws the lead in the 89th minute of the game to give her team the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with eight shots, with six on target. Mississippi College finished the game with 24 shots with nine on frame
• Mississippi College led AUM in corner kicks 5-0.  
• The Lady Choctaws recorded four saves while the Warhawks picked up six.

STAT OF THE GAME
• Mendez and Svaerke have combined to score 14 of 21 total goals for AUM this season.  

UP NEXT
The Warhawks will be back in action Thursday, October 26 as they return home to face Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
