MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Behind four players recording season-highs in scoring, the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team won its home opener on Wednesday evening against Middle Georgia State 69-65.
NOTES
• AUM moves to 3-0 on the season
• Middle Georgia State drops to 2-4.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior guard
Evelina Avleeva led the Warhawks with a season-high 24 points on 10-21 shooting from the field while adding three rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks.
• Sophomore guard
Aaliyah Milord also posted a season-best with 13 points while leading the team with two blocks and matching the team high with seven rebounds.
• Junior guard
Jemaiya Lee chipped in 12 points with five rebounds.
• Sophomore forward
Regan Croff contributed a season-high nine points and seven rebounds.
• Redshirt senior
Kyla Rooks had a season-high eight points with a season-best seven assists.
• For Middle Georgia, Dexshalyn Polite posted 18 points with Takia Bradberry grabbing a game-best 12 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rooks scored the opening four points of the contest to give AUM the early advantage. Middle Georgia State created its lone lead of the half off a 6-0 run to take an 8-7 lead before a 12-0 spree by the Warhawks propelled them to a 19-8 advantage. MGS ended the quarter with six points to cut the separation to five, 19-14.
• AUM led by as many as 10 in the second quarter, creating a 29-19 lead off back-to-back Avleeva three pointers before back-to-back baskets for the visitors made it 29-23. The Knights continued to rally and managed to knot the score at 37-all, but a late layup by Avleeva gave AUM a 39-37 lead heading into halftime.
• The Warhawks opened up the second half with a 12-4 run to recreate the double-digit advantage at 51-41. Middle Georgia State brought it back to single digits with a basket before a 5-0 run by AUM made it a 13-point contest at 56-43. AUM held MGS to a quarter-low eight points in the third frame, going into the final stretch with a 56-45 lead.
• Middle Georgia State outscored AUM 20-13 over the final 10 minutes, cutting the deficit to as little as four before the final whistle blew.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 29-57 shots, including 6-18 from three-point territory.
• Middle Georgia State finished 26-67 from the field and 8-23 from distance.
• AUM scored 34 points in the paint versus 16 for Miles
• AUM committed 17 turnovers, resulting in 12 MGS points. The Knights committed 18 turnovers, leading to 16 points.
• Middle Georgia State held a 40-32 advantage in rebounds.
• AUM dished out 19 assists, Middle Georgia State had 16.
• AUM recorded eight steals and four blocks while Middle Georgia State finished 10 steals and no blocks.
