Men’s Basketball Travels To Kentucky Wesleyan On Saturday

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball squad will take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon, as AUM head coach Michael Cheaney brings his Warhawks to face his alma mater for the second year in a row.

About the Warhawks
AUM is currently 0-2 on the young season with setbacks against Claflin University and Benedict College this past weekend. The Warhawks fell 91-59 to Claflin on Friday before dropping an 86-75 decision to BC on Saturday.
 
In the game against BC junior guard Desmond DeRamus scored a career-high 30 points in the contest, with freshman forward Airen Brooks and freshman guard Kenneth Keith each scoring a career best 12 and 10, respectively. Brooks also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds to lead the Warhawks.
 
The two teams met last season in a 77-74 victory for KW, a game that saw 15 lead changes with no team ever leading by double digits. Sophomore guard Darrion Taylor scored a team-high 19 points, with Desmond DeRamus and Lafayette James-Core adding 16 and 15, respectively, to the Warhawks' total.
 
DeRamus currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 23 points per game, as he and Brooks lead the team in rebounds with 11 apiece. DeRamus also leads the team in assists with four.
 
About the Panthers
Kentucky Wesleyan is currently 1-3 on the season, with the Panthers lone victory coming against Gulf South Conference foe the University of Montevallo on Nov. 3. KW has dropped three in a row to Southern Indiana, Lake Superior and Wayne State before falling in an exhibition matchup to NCAA Division I opponent Western Kentucky this past Wednesday.
 
The panthers are led offensively by junior guard and Montgomery, Ala., native Harold "Bird" Cardwell. Cardwell is averaging 13.3 points per game with a 5.0 rebound per game average, which also leads the team. He also leads the team in assists with 10.

AUM will host region rival Tuskegee in the men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Opening tip between the women will be at 6 p.m. with the men's contest slated to start at 8 p.m. at the AUM Gymnasium.
