DAYTONA, Fla. – Sophomore guard
Michael Bryant scored a career-high 34 points in helping lead the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team to a 101-92 victory over Embry-Riddle University on Saturday evening at the 2017 Bahama House Shootout in the ICI Center.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 3-2 this season, while ERU falls to 3-3 on the year.
• Bryant's previous career high of 15 came against Selma University last season.
• The 101 points marked the first time this season the Warhawks have topped the century mark.
• The last time AUM scored 100 points was in the season finale of last year, a 101-79 victory over Selma University on Feb. 25.
• The Warhawks will now face Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama in the championship of the tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Bryant connected on 12-14 field goals, including going 8-8 from behind the 3-point arc. He also led the team in rebounds with seven.
• Junior guard
Desmond DeRamus tallied 19 points for the Warhawks, adding five assists and three steals.
• Sophomore guard
Darrion Taylor tallied a career-high nine assists.
• All five of the Eagles' starters scored in double figures with Nashad Mackey scoring a team-high 24 points. Mackey also recorded a game-high 16 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead before eventually taking a 16-6 advantage at the 14:51 mark on a trey by Elijah Jenkins. AUM would go on an 18-8 run capped off by an
Airen Brooks 3-pointer that tied the game with 10:20 to play in the first.
• The two teams traded the lead back and forth until 1:03 to play when DeRamus hit a layup to tie the game at 47-47. Bryant then hit a 3-pointer in the closing moments to give the Warhawks a 50-47 advantage heading into halftime.
• AUM would slowly pull away from the Eagles in the second half, taking an 11-point advantage at 72-61 on a jumper by Brooks with 12:49 on the clock. DeRamus gave the Warhawks their biggest lead of the contest, going up 78-63 with 9:52 to play.
• The Warhawks would keep the Eagles at arm's length the rest of the way to earn the nine-point victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM outscored ERU 48-38 in the paint.
• The Warhawks' bench outscored the Eagles' bench 33-9.
• ERU out-rebounded AUM, 36-33.
UP NEXT
AUM will take on GSC foe UWA in the championship game of the 2017 Bahamas House Shootout tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Tigers earned their way to the winners' bracket by defeating Wingate 78-58 in the first game of the tournament.
