Women’s Basketball Falls In Conference Opener At Lee 63-25

CLEVELAND, TENN. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team played its first official Gulf South Conference game on Thursday evening, falling to host Lee University 63-25.
 
NOTES
• AUM drops to 3-3 on the season, 0-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Lee improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in league action.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior guard Jemaiya Lee paced the Warhawks with five points and five rebounds.
• Freshman guard Jessika Milton matched Lee with five points, all coming in the final quarter.
• Sophomore Guard Aaliyah Milord chipped in four points with three rebounds and two steals.
• For Lee, Taylor Boggess scored 14 points with seven rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The two sides exchanged the opening two baskets of the contest, but Lee ended the quarter on a 16-0 run to take an 18-2 advantage.
• Lee continued their run in the second quarter, scoring the initial basket before a pair of free throws from AUM's Lee made it 20-4. The Flames ended the frame on an 11-4 run to hold a 31-8 edge at halftime.
• AUM opened up the second half with back-to-back baskets to cut the deficit within 20, only for a 13-1 run by the hosts creating a 46-13 separation. Lee went into the final frame with a 51-17 lead.
• The Flames scored 10-straight points to begin the final stanza, with a jumper from Milton ending the run. AUM chipped into the lead with triples from Milton and senior guard Shanna Strain while holding Lee to just one basket over the final three minutes of play.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 9-54 shots, including 2-13 from three-point territory and 5-8 from the free throw line.
• Lee finished 24-59 from the field, 12-33 from distance and 3-4 from the free throw line.
• Lee scored 22 points in the paint versus six for the Warhawks.
• AUM committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 15 LU points. Lee committed 20 turnovers, leading to seven points.
• Lee held a 52-29 advantage in rebounds.
• AUM dished out four assists, Lee had 18
• Both sides posted eight steals.
