MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team hosted its first Gulf South Conference game in program history on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 50-43 setback against visiting Delta State.

• AUM drops to 5-4 on the season, 1-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Delta State improves to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in GSC action.

Evelina Avleeva led the Warhawks with 13 points.
• Sophomore guard
Aaliyah Milord also finished in double digits with 10 points while adding a pair of assists and steals.
• Redshirt-sophomore
Bailee Wolfe dished out three assists to go with three blocks.
• Junior guard/forward
Jemaiya Lee pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds with eight points and two steals.
• For Delta State, Alondrea Rush scored a game-high 14 points with five assists and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM began the contest with a pair of 4-0 spurts, sandwiching a Delta State basket to give the Warhawks an early 8-2 lead with 4:58 remaining in the quarter. The Statesmen countered with a 7-2 spree to cut the deficit to one at 10-9, but a triple from Avleeva as time expired gave the Warhawks a 13-9 advantage.
• Delta State opened up the second quarter with a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the contest at 14-13 with 8:01 left in the half. AUM connected on a free throw to knot up the score at 14-all, only for a Delta State triple on the other end making it 17-14. AUM reclaimed the lead off a 4-0 rally before a free a DSU free throw tied the score at 18-all. The two sides split the final four points of the half, keeping the score tied at 20-20.
• AUM broke a scoreless second half with a basket from Milord, making it 22-20 with 7:33 remaining in the quarter. Delta State responded to the basket with a 10-2 run, giving the visitors a six-point lead at 30-24. Avleeva and sophomore guard
Alex Brown both connected on triples on the Warhawks following two possessions, with DSU making one three-pointer in-between, to cut the deficit to three only for a late basket by the Statesmen making it 35-30 going into the final 10 minutes.
• AUM opened up the final stanza with four-straight points, making it a one-point contest at 35-34. The two sides exchanged triples to keep the separation at one, but two extra baskets from beyond the arc for the visitors made it 44-37. Avleeva cut the deficit to four with a three-pointer, leading to a stretch of 3:48 without a basket until a jumper in the paint for DSU made it 46-40. Wolfe responded on the ensuing possession with a triple, making it a one-possession game 46-43. Delta State added four points to their lead before the final horn.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 15-48 shots, going 6-20 from three-point territory and 7-8 from the free throw line.
• Delta State went 17-53 from the field, 8-24 from beyond the arc and 8-10 from the free throw line.
• AUM recorded 14 assists versus 13 for Delta State.
• AUM committed 19 turnovers, resulting in 16 DSU points. The Statesmen committed 14 turnovers, leading to eight points.
• Both sides registered 35 rebounds.
• AUM recorded five steals with four blocks while Delta State stole the ball eight times with two blocks.

The women's basketball team plays its penultimate contest of 2017 on Monday, Dec. 18 against Mississippi College in a 6 p.m. contest, with the men taking on the Choctaws at 8 p.m.
