YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. ------ The Auburn Montgomery softball team fell to Young Harris College 4-3 in game one, and 5-3 in game two Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Young Harris Tournament with two big innings from the Mountain Lions.
NOTES
• The Warhawks fell to 7-6 on the year.
• The Mountain Lions improved to 13-0 on the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore
Kaylin Finch led the Warhawks with three hits on the day, two RBIs, two runs scored and also picked up her second homerun of the year in game one. Finch is also tied with Hendrix with a team-leading 14 hits.
• Junior
Kalee Sparks finished the second game 2-for-3 with a run scored, and is currently batting .375, which is third best on the team.
• Freshman
Jaycie Walker picked up an RBI in game one on a sacrifice fly, and finished the second 2-for-4.
• Murphy Davis led the way for Young Harris, as she picked up four hits on the day.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Pinholster reached on an error, and stole second to move into scoring position. A single from Persinger to left, followed by an error allowed Pinholster to score.
• Neither team was able to plate a run as offense with scarce with both teams only picking up one hit each until the top of the fifth.
• AUM plated its second run of the game in the top of the fifth after a sacrifice fly from Walker plated Ragland to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.
• Young Harris tallied its first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice from Botti that plated Perrucci. However, Ragland stranded the bases loaded with two strikeouts to preserve the 2-1 advantage.
• AUM scored an additional run in the top of the sixth on a solo blast to left from Finch to give the Warhawks a 3-1 lead heading to the final frame.
• Young Harris plated its final three runs of the game on a double and an untimely error to defeat the Warhawks 4-3 in game one.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a hitless first inning, Young Harris got on the board with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
• Neither team plated a run in the third, but AUM scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth inning. A Finch walk with bases loaded plated Walker, followed by a walk from Tucker to score Sparks. The final run of the inning came on a fielder's Choice from Nieves that plated Finch to make the score 4-3.
• Once again, a scoreless fifth saw Young Harris pick up its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. A Stooksbury single plated Alderman to increase the Mount Lion lead to 5-3. Â
• AUM was retired in order in the top of the seventh to give Young Harris the 5-3 victory in game two.
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Sunday, February 26, where they will finish up play in the Young Harris Tournament with a doubleheader against Georgia College. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
