Women’s Basketball Sends Seniors Out in Style with 89-62 Homecoming Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- Four players scored in double figures, including a game-high 33 points by senior Kaylan Withrow, as the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team recorded an 89-62 victory over Selma University on Homecoming Saturday.

NOTES
• The win ended the Warhawks season at 6-20.
• The Lady Bulldogs fell to 6-22 overall
• The contest marked the final collegiate game for Withrow and fellow senior Grace Farnsworth.
• Withrow ended her career as the school's all-time leader in career 3-pointers (345), while also holding the school records for 3-pointers in a season (108 last season) and 3's in a game (10 against Florida Memorial as a sophomore). She capped her career sixth all-time in scoring (1,365) in the storied history of the women's basketball program.
• Farnsworth finished her career averaging 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 25 career games.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Withrow finished with 33 points, falling one 3-pointer shy of matching her school record, while adding three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Freshman Chandler Sutton finished with a career-high 21 points, hitting three 3-pointers and finishing 4-for-4 at the free throw line. She added five assists and five rebounds.
• Junior Tyra Caudle posted her third double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and a team-best 12 rebounds. She also snagged a career-best seven steals.
Nadia Stewart finished with 11 points, six assists, a pair of rebounds and two steals.
• Farnsworth capped her career with nine points, two rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal.
• Tatyana Griffin led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points and 21 rebounds. She also contributed three assists, two steals and two blocks.
• Jashima Hill (19) and Delvonna Hubbard (11) also scored in double figures.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM led just 9-8 following a trey by Hill with 5:29 remaining in the first quarter, but it closed the quarter with a 15-3 run, 11 of which came from Withrow, and took a 24-11 lead after one quarter.
• The Warhawks upped their advantage to 21 points, 37-21, on a Caudle layup with 7:21 remaining before the half. However, the Warhawks were held scoreless the remainder of the period, and led just 37-26 at halftime.
• A Hill trey with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter pulled Selma to within four points, 42-38, but AUM answered with an 11-4 spurt, capped by a Withrow trey, to extend the lead to 53-42 with 2:46 left in the quarter. The Warhawks led 53-47 after three quarters.
• AUM opened the fourth quarter with a 17-2 run, with Sutton scoring 12 of the points during the spurt, and opened up a 70-49 lead. The Lady Bulldogs pulled to within 18 points on a pair of occasions, including as late as with 2:32 remaining. However, the Warhawks outscored Selma 11-2 from that point to provide the final margin.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished 31-of-77 from the field, including 17-of-46 from behind the arc. The Warhawks also converted 10-of-14 free throw attempts.
• The Lady Bulldogs were 22-of-57 from the floor, hitting 9-of-26 shots from distance. Selma was 9-of-13 from the charity stripe.
• The Warhawks forced 32 turnovers, leading to 38 points. AUM committed just 10 miscues, leading to 11 Selma points.
• Selma held a 52-33 advantage on the boards, including a 20-16 edge on the offensive end. Each team had nine second-chance points.
• Only four of the 151 combined points in the contest were scored by the bench.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks end their first full NCAA Division II schedule with a 6-20 record.
