CLERMONT, Fla. ------ The Auburn Montgomery softball team wrapped up play in the Legend Way Tournament Tuesday morning defeating Bloomsburg University 5-2 in the first game, before falling 7-6 on a walk-off hit to Concordia St. Paul in game two.
NOTES
• The Warhawks moved to 16-13 on the year.
• The Huskies fell to 5-4 on the season.
• The Golden Bears improved to 3-10 on the year.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior
Kalee Sparks led the Warhawks offensively with a double in game one, and a perfect 4-for-4 showing in game two with two doubles and a run scored. She is currently tied with freshman
Jaycie Walker for hits with 32 and doubles with seven.
• Senior
Sydney Dishman picked up her fourth home run of the year in game two on a three-run blast to deep center. She currently leads the team in home runs with four and RBIs with 24.
• Freshman
Parker Pinholster picked up a hit in each game, and also tallied her second career home run.
• Senior
Rachel Ragland and junior rose Schmidt each tallied doubles in game one. Freshman
Chanel Newcomer picked up her first career double as well, and picked up the win in game one throwing 1.2 innings of relief and allowed just one hit to improve to 4-3 on the year.
• Taylor Parker led the way for Bloomsburg finishing 1-for-3 with a two RBI double. Hannah Carlson led the way for Concordia St. Paul on a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and the game-winning RBI double.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bloomsburg scored first in the top of the first inning on a Parker double to left center that scored both Wheeland and Winkleman for an early 2-0 lead. Â
• After a scoreless second, Pinholster singled on a bunt, but an errant throw allowed Schmidt to score.
• AUM tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded walk from Schmidt that plated Ragland.
• Neither team scored in the fifth, but AUM took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Newcomer led off the inning with her first career double, and an error on a sacrifice bunt from Persinger put runners on the corners. A Pinholster bases loaded walk plated Newcomer, and Walker walked to score Persinger. However, Schmidt advanced to third and stole home to give the Warhawks a 5-2 lead heading to the final frame.
• Newcomer surrendered her only hit of her outing in the top of the seventh, but struck out the final batter swinging to give the Warhawks the 5-2 victory in game one.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams tallied a hit in the first frame, but neither team was able to score. AUM took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a Newcomer groundout that plated Finch.
• Concordia responded in the home half of the second to tie the game at 1-1. A solo home run from Carlson led off the inning.
• Concordia took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch that plated both Schattner and Schanks.
• After a scoreless fourth, AUM picked up three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Walker singled up the middle, and a Sparks double down the left field line put two runners in scoring position with one out. Dishman launched her fourth home run of the year to deep center that gave the Warhawks the 4-3 advantage.
• Neither team scored in the sixth, but AUM added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Pinholster led off the inning with a solo home run to center, and a sacrifice fly from Finch plated Walker to give the Warhawks a 6-3 lead heading to the final frame.
• Concordia completed the comeback in the final frame after a bases loaded double from Schanks tied the game at six, and a double to right center from Carlson gave the Golden Bears the 7-6 walk-off victory in game two.Â
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Thursday, March 23, when they travel to face Montevallo University in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
