Power Hitting Grants Softball Twin Bill Split with West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. ------ The Auburn Montgomery softball team split Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader with the University of West Alabama. The Warhawks fell in the opener 4-2, and responded with a 9-3 victory in game two on four home runs.

NOTES
• The Warhawks moved to 21-16 on the year.
• The Tigers fell to 19-24 on the season.
• AUM launched five homeruns in the two games, and were led by Sophomore Abby Krueger who launched her first two career homeruns in game number two.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Krueger led the Warhawks with four hits on the day, which included a 3-for-3 performance in game two on two home runs and a double. Krueger also tallied a career-high three runs scored as well with a pair of RBIs.
• Freshman Jaycie Walker hit her sixth home run of the year in game one and also picked up two RBIs. She currently leads the team in home runs with six, and also in RBIs with 29.
• Freshman Parker Pinholster picked up her fourth home run of the year in the second game, as well as an additional single. She also stole two bases during the twin bill, and is currently 34-for-35 on the year.
• Sophomore Kaylin Finch added three hits in the second game. Senior Sydney Dishman picked up her fifth home run of the season in game two, and is tied for second on the team in RBIs with 26.
• Freshman Taylor Tiffany earned her second win in as many days to improve to 7-4 on the year. She hurled six strong innings and allowed just four hits and three runs, while striking out six. She leads the pitching staff for the Warhawks with a 2.62 ERA and 79 strikeouts, and is also holding hitters to just a .185 average.
• Ashley Stassin led the way for West Alabama after finishing 2-for-3 in game two with two runs scored, an RBI, a home run and a double.

GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM jumped on the board first in the opening inning after a single from Pinholster was followed up by Walker's sixth homerun of the year to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.  
• West Alabama responded in the bottom of the first with three runs to take the lead. A Craft single up the middle scored Diekmann, and a fielder's choice and ground out allowed the remaining two runs to score.
• AUM was held hitless for the next three innings, but West Alabama added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a Diekmann double to right center that plated McKee to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
• AUM picked up its first hit since the opening inning on a Krueger single, however the Warhawks would be unable to score.
• Sparks singled in the top of the sixth and Persinger doubled to left center in the top of the seventh, however neither team would be able to score an additional run to give the game one victory to West Alabama, 4-2.

GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team scored in the opening inning, however AUM took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Dishman homered to left, and Krueger followed suite for the first back-to-back home run pairing this season for the Warhawks.
• A scoreless third saw AUM add an insurance run in the top of the fourth. Krueger led the inning off with a double, and eventually came around to score on a Ragland single up the middle to give the Warhawks a 3-0 lead.
• West Alabama responded in the home half of the inning after an error scored McKee, and a single from Storey plated Stassin to bring the lead to one, 3-2.
• AUM continued to produce offensively as Nieves scored on a fielder's choice from Hendrix. The run marked the first scored by the Warhawks that did not involve the long ball. Finch later scored on a wild pitch, and an RBI single from Dishman brought home Hendrix to give the Warhawks a 6-2 lead.
• West Alabama did not pick up a hit in the bottom of the fifth, but AUM responded two runs in the top of the sixth. Pinholster homered to left, and a Hendrix single to right plated Sparks to extend the Warhawk lead to 8-2.
• West Alabama scored a single run in the bottom half of the inning on a solo shot from Stassin to left. The home run cut the Warhawk lead to five heading to the final inning. 
• AUM picked up its final run of the day in the top of the seventh on Krueger's second blast of the game to left. The Warhawks held a 9-3 advantage as Newcomer came to the circle in the bottom of the seventh. She recorded two strikeouts in the final inning as the Warhawks defeated the Tigers 9-3 in game two for the twin bill split on the road.

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Friday, April 14, when they travel to face Spring Hill College in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
