Baseball Falls to Georgia College on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ------ The Auburn Montgomery baseball team was unable to complete the weekend sweep of Georgia College on Sunday, dropping the final contest of the season, 5-2.

NOTES
• AUM finished the season 27-23.
• The Bobcats improved to 31-13.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior John-Mark Cosby recorded three hits in his final game.
• Michael Tedford recorded two hits and scored both Warhawk runs.
• Trevor Flynn notched a pair of singles and an RBI.
• Curtiss Johnson had an RBI.
• Tanner Russell and Brandon Davis both singled twice.
• Chase Johnson threw his fifth complete game of his senior campaign.
• Brandon Benson hit his 21st home run of the season for the Bobcats, a two-run shot late in the ballgame.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Each side went down rather quickly in each of the first three innings.
• Benson singled to lead off the top of the fourth.  The next hitter, Mattix doubled to left, scoring Benson to give the Bobcats the lead.  After Mattix advanced to third on a wild pitch, Wommack grounded out to score Mattix.
• Tedford and Cosby singled to lead off the next half.  After a sacrifice bunt from Flynn, Johnson slapped a groundball to second to cut the deficit in half.
• In the bottom of the seventh the Warhawks had multiple chances to tie and take the lead.  Russell singled to lead off the inning and was bunted to second Langley.  The next hitter, Davis singled up the middle and Russell ran through the stop sign at third and was gunned out trying to score.  Davis advanced to second.  Chandler singled the next pitch up the middle and Davis was also thrown out from center field to end the inning. 
• Benson hit a two-run homer to extend the Bobcat lead to 4-1 in the eighth.
• Flynn singled in Tedford in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 4-2.
• In the top of the ninth, Gentry tallied an RBI double to increase the Georgia College lead heading to the bottom half of the ninth.
• Trey Matherson managed to walk in his final at bat but the Warhawks were unable to string together a rally and fell in their final game, 5-2.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks had the only error in the game.
• AUM left eight runners on base.  Georgia College stranded six.
 
UP NEXT
• This was the final game of the season for Auburn Montgomery.  They will return to action in 2018.
