Warhawks Defeat Spring Hill, 3-1

MOBILE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Gulf South Conference foe Spring Hill College on Friday afternoon, tallying three unanswered goals to upend the Badgers on the road.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 2-4 on the year, with a 1-2 mark in the GSC.
• The win snaps a four game losing skid for the Warhawks.
• The three goals were the second most goals scored this season by AUM
• Spring Hill falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
• The Badgers had snapped a 23-game winless streak on Wednesday by defeating Georgia Southwestern State, 2-1.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore Allison Singleterry and freshman Stina Svaerke both scored their second goals of the season.
• Junior Stella Mazillo scored her first goal of the year.
• Goalkeeper Felicia Wester entered the game in the 36th minute, shutting out the Badgers over the final 54 minutes, recording four saves in the process.
• Sophomore Ruby Mendez picked up her third assist of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• SHC's Madison Camet scored the first goal of the contest when she took a Lilli Hanks pass from 15 yards out and hit the bottom of the crossbar, ricocheting past the keeper and into the goal in the fourth minute.
• It took some time but Mazillo was able to get the equalizer in the 31st minute, chipping the keeper from 10 yards out after receiving the ball from Mendez.
• Svaerke got the game winner in the second half off of a set piece which saw Fabiana Alborghetti send a free kick into the box to Svaerke who blasted it into the back of the net from five yards out in the 52nd minute.
• Singleterry sealed the game for the Warhawks in the 83rd minute, taking a pass from Agnes Edlund and scoring from 15 yards out.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• AUM finished the match with 19 shots (11 on goal), the second most shots taken this season (22 vs. Eckerd).
• Wester improved to 2-3 on the season with the win.
• Neither team was issued a caution or ejection in the contest.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will host GSC opponent West Alabama on Friday, Sept. 29, at the AUM Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., and will be preceded by AUM's and UWA's men's squads squaring off at 5 p.m.
