Mendez Records Brace, AUM Downs West Alabama 3-1

Montgomery, Ala. ----- The Warhawks defeated the West Alabama Tigers behind a two-goal effort from Ruby Mendez.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 3-4 while West Alabama record stands at 4-6   
• Sophomore Ruby Mendez picked up her third and fourth goals of the season against the Tigers, helping the Warhawks to their 3-1 victory  
• Felecia Wester recorded eight saves in the victory.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Mendez tallied two goals and six shots in the defeat of West Alabama.
• Stine Svaerke netted her second goal of the season.
• Junior Fabiana Alborghetti assisted on the second goal of the game for the Warhawks.
• Megan McGettigan scored the lone goal of the match for the Tigers.   

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half of the game saw just eight shots between the two teams, West Alabama outshot AUM 6-2 in the first half.
• Wester recorded three saves for the Warhawks in the first half while Ruby Mendez recorded the only two shots for AUM.
• Mendez netted her third goal of the season when she took a rebounded shot and pounded the ball past the keeper in the 49th minute.
• Mendez found the net again just three minutes later when she capitalized off a free kick from Alborghetti right outside the box.
• Svaerke scored her second goal of the year in the 71st minute when she beat the keeper to her right on a shot from outside the box.
• McGettigan put the tigers on the board in the 81st minute when she capitalized on a ball that was sitting right in front of the Warhawk net.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 10 shots, and 6 were put on target. West Alabama finished the game with 18 shots with 10 on frame.
• West Alabama led AUM in corner kicks 3-1.  
• The Tigers and Warhawks both recorded nine saves in the contest.

STAT OF THE GAME
•Junior keeper Felecia Wester recorded eight saves in the 3-1 victory over West Alabama.

• The Warhawks will return to action on Sunday, October 1 when they will play host to the University of Alabama Huntsville, the match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
