CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team took on Lee University on Tuesday evening, rallying back after dropping the opening set before being held to 10 kills over the final two frames in a 3-1 setback (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-12).
NOTES
• AUM falls to 7-7 overall, 1-3 in league play.
• Lee improves to 8-3 on the season with a 2-2 mark in GSC action.
• AUM broke the previous record for team blocks in a game, finishing the contest with eight as a unit.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• For the second-consecutive match, junior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin eclipsed her previous career-high in blocks, boasting six (two solo, four assisted). The Atlanta, Ga. native added a career-best and team-high 13 kills on an accurate .542 hitting percentage in the loss.
• Junior setter
Carly Smart fell one dig shy of a double-double with 26 assists and nine digs while contributing three assisted blocks.
• Redshirt-junior right-side hitter
Kheala Roberts anchored the defense with 14 digs while chipping in seven kills and a pair of assisted blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist
Haley Toler and freshman outside hitter
Skylar Coppinger also finished with double-digit digs with 13 and 12, respectively.
• For the Flames, Silva Sartori had 17 kills while Sadie Johnson posted 27 assists and MaKayla Beebe had 23 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM trailed for the majority of the opening set, keeping the deficit within range before a 4-0 run by the Flames midway through the frame gave them a 20-15 advantage. AUM rallied off three-straight points to bring it back to within two but the hosts ended the run with a block and scored five of the final six points of the frame.
• The Warhawks were victorious in a back-and-fourth second set that saw the scored tied 13 times to knot up the overall score. Neither side led by more than two points in the frame, with AUM's largest lead of the set coming off back-to-back points to end the stanza.
• Lee opened up the third set with eight of the first 10 points to hold a daunting six-point lead early. AUM responded with a 10-5 stretch to knot up the score at 11-all, but Lee orchestrated a 9-3 run to take a 20-14 edge.
• AUM never led in the final set, as Lee broke a 4-4 draw with three-consecutive points to take a 7-4 advantage. The Warhawks kept the separation within three until a 7-0 run by the hosts propelled the Flames to a 19-10 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match 29 kills on a .101 hitting percentage versus 65 on a .256 clip for Lee.
• The Flames held a 69-58 advantage in digs.
• AUM boasted eight blocks as a unit while Lee finished with five.
• Lee posted 10 service aces against two for AUM.

AUM plays a pair of league matches on the road this weekend, starting at Valdosta State on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. followed by West Florida on Saturday at 1 p.m.
