AUM Drops Non-Conference Decision To Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – Sophomore Simon Van Rheeden put the Warhawks on the board late in the second half of a non-conference matchup against Clayton State on Wednesday evening, but the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team could not slow down the potent Lakers' offense as CSU earned a 5-1 decision over AUM.
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 0-8 on the season.
• Van Rheeden's goal was the second on the season for the Warhawks, with fellow sophomore Vilhjalmur Runarsson tallying the assist.  
• Clayton State improves to 4-4 on the season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Van Rheeden scored in the 73rd minute, his first of the season.
• Runarsson kept the pressure up offensively, tallying six shots (four on goal).
• Senior goalkeeper Stephen Ingram recorded a season-high nine saves.
• Dean Foster scored a pair of goals for the Lakers, with Tom Mitchinson recording three assists on the night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• CSU's Kwaku Dwamena scored his fifth goal of the year in the 20th minute, taking a Mitchinson pass and putting into the left corner of the net.
• Mitchinson picked up his second assist of the evening a minute later, crossing an offering to Sekou Thornell who drove it into the center of the net.
• Foster scored his first goal of the night in the 30th minute, scoring on a Dwamena pass from the left post and scoring on the right half of the goal.
• The second half saw Foster tally his second goal, scoring in the 51st minute to put the Lakers up 4-0.
• Mitchinson recorded his third assist of the night in the 64th minute, crossing it in from 40 yards out to Juuso Ollila, who put it home for CSU.
• Van Rheeden took an offering from Runarsson off the right side and put it in the back of the net to get AUM on the board in the 73rd minute.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• AUM finished the match with 15 shots (eight on goal), while the Lakers tallied 28 shots (14 on goal).
• Clayton tallied 10 corner kicks to just three for AUM.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will host Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m. This will be the second contest of the season between the Warhawks and the Tigers, but will be the first league game between the two.
