Croff Sees Double In Women’s Basketball’s 47-41 Victory Over Alabama Huntsville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore forward Regan Croff recorded her first collegiate double-double on Saturday afternoon, scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds to lead the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team to a 47-41 victory over visiting Alabama Huntsville.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 7-8 on the season and 3-5 in Gulf South Conference action.
• Alabama Huntsville drops to 10-6, 4-5 in GSC play.
• With seven wins, the Warhawks surpassed last season's total for the most since AUM joined the NCAA.
• AUM's 16 steals is a season-high and ties for the fourth-most by a GSC team in a game this season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Croff connected on 7-11 shooting en route to her new career-high while adding a pair of blocks.
• Senior guard Kyla Rooks also finished in double-digits with 10 points to go with a game-high five assists and three steals.
• Junior guard/forward Evelina Avleeva chipped in eight points with a game-high five steals.
• For Alabama Huntsville, Aryn Sanders scored 15 points with four steals while Katie Speegle pulled down nine rebounds and Chandler Elder dished out four assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM scored the opening basket of the contest, getting a layup from Rooks. UAH scored six straight and 12 of the ensuing 14 to take a 12-4 lead, with redshirt sophomore center Bailee Wolfe connecting on a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 12-6 going into the second quarter.
• UAH opened up the second stanza with a 7-3 spree, creating a double-digit separation at 19-9. AUM responded with a 6-0 rally, getting baskets from junior guard/forward Jemaiya Lee and sophomore guard Aaliyah Milord to cut the deficit to four, 19-15, with 55 seconds remaining in the half. The Chargers got a layup in the final minute to add to their lead, with a made free throw from Lee making it a five-point game at the intermission, 21-16.
• The Warhawks opened up the third quarter with six-straight points, getting back-to-back baskets from Croff after a Rooks jumper, creating a 22-21 lead for AUM. The two sides exchanged the lead six times over the 10-minute period with four tied scores, including 32-all with 1:11 left in the frame before a late triple for the Chargers gave them a 35-32 advantage.
• In similar fashion to the previous quarter, AUM scored the opening six points to create a 38-35 lead. UAH knotted up the score twice in the quarter, but the Warhawks held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 16-56 shots, going 2-10 from three-point territory and 13-20 from the free throw line.
• UAH went 15-49 from the field, 4-18 from beyond the arc and 7-8 from the free throw line.
• AUM held a 42-37 advantage in rebounds.
• Both sides had 10 assists.
• AUM committed 16 turnovers, resulting in eight Chargers' points. Alabama Huntsville committed 22 turnovers, leading to 22 points.
• The Warhawks scored 26 points in the paint, UAH finished with 22
• AUM recorded 16 steals with four blocks while UAH stole the ball seven times with three blocks.
 
UP NEXT
The women's basketball team hosts the University of North Alabama on Monday, Jan. 15 in a GSC doubleheader at 6 p.m., followed by the men's basketball team taking on the Lions at 8 p.m.
