MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team hosted nationally-ranked University of North Alabama on Monday evening, falling to the No. 24 Lions 66-51.
NOTES
• AUM drops to 7-9 on the season and 3-6 in Gulf South Conference action.
• North Alabama improves to 16-1 overall, 9-1 in GSC play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman guard
Makaylla Bullard led the Warhawks with 13 points, four coming off a four-point play in the final seconds, shooting 4-6 from beyond the arc.
• Junior guard/forward
Evelina Avleeva finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a team-best four steals.
• Junior guard/forward
Jemaiya Lee added 11 points on 5-8 shooting.
• Sophomore forward
Regan Croff pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
• For North Alabama, Michaela DeKilder scored 21 points with seven rebounds while Ivy Wallen added 12 points with seven assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM held a slim 9-8 lead in a back-and-forth opening to the contest, but a 10-2 run to end the frame for the Lions made it 18-11.
• The Warhawks managed to cut into the deficit with a 6-2 run to make it a one-possession contest at 20-17, but an 8-0 retort by the Lions created a double-digit separation, 28-17. The runs repeated themselves, with another 6-2 spurt for AUM followed by an 8-0 run for North Alabama making it 38-23 at the half.
• North Alabama carried their momentum into the second, scoring the opening eight points to create a 46-23 separation. The Lions limited AUM to seven points in the third quarter, holding a 55-30 lead going into the fourth.
• Following a quick 4-1 spurt for the Lions that created a game-high 28-point separation at 59-31, the Warhawks went on an 8-0 run to make it 59-39. AUM ended the contest with nine of final 11 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 19-50 shots, going 6-13 from three-point territory and 7-9 from the free throw line.
• UNA went 25-70 from the field, 5-27 from beyond the arc and 11-11 from the free throw line.
• The Lions held a 43-34 advantage in rebounds.
• AUM dished out 12 assists versus 18 for North Alabama.
• AUM committed 20 turnovers, resulting in 31 Lions' points. North Alabama committed 12 turnovers, leading to 10 points.
• The Warhawks scored 22 points in the paint, UNA finished with 41.
• AUM recorded eight steals with three blocks while North Alabama stole the ball 13 times with four blocks.
