Warhawks Set To Face Union On Thursday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After picking up their second victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season on Tuesday evening the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball will look to win two in a row as the Warhawks will travel to Jackson, Tenn., to take on Gulf South Conference foe Union University on Thursday at 8 p.m.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks improved to 6-6 on the season and 2-3 in GSC play with a 77-68 victory over #5 Christian Brothers on Tuesday evening. Senior guard Reagan Eubanks scored a team-high 18 points in his first contest back from injury, helping lift the Warhawks to their second victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season. AUM defeated #24 Kentucky Wesleyan on Nov. 18, 80-72. The loss for CBU (11-1, 3-1 GSC) was its first of the season.
 
The victory also marked the first time since the 2012-13 season that AUM defeated a Top-10 ranked opponent, having defeated #8 William Carey University on Jan. 26 of that season, 62-55.
 
Four players scored in double figures for the Warhawks against CBU, with senior forward Lafayette James-Core recording his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 boards for James-Core was a career high, besting his old mark of eight against Trevecca Nazarene on Jan. 14, 2017.
 
For the season AUM is 5-2 on the road, 1-2 at home and 0-2 in neutral site games.
 
Junior guard Desmond DeRamus leads the team in scoring with a 14.9 points per game average. Sophomore guard Darrion Taylor is second on the team with 12.5 ppg and James-Core is third with 12.2 ppg. Taylor leads the team in 3-pointers with 29 on the season while DeRamus leads the team in assists with 46.
 
Senior forward Kameron Hornbuckle leads AUM in rebounding, pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game.  
 
Union swept the season series with the Warhawks last season, earning a 71-64 victory on Nov. 17 at the AUM Gymnasium followed by a 73-72 victory on Dec. 8 on the campus of the Bulldogs. AUM is 1-3 lifetime against the Bulldogs, winning the first meeting between the two schools 90-73 on Nov. 7, 1997.
 
About the Bulldogs
Union improved to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the Gulf South with a 100-96 victory over West Georgia on Tuesday evening. Three Bulldogs scored in double figures with senior guard Nick Velasquez leading the way with 23. Fellow senior Charlie Wilson scored 22 while pulling down nine rebounds in helping the Bulldogs to the four-point victory.
 
The game also marked the third time this season that Union has eclipsed the century mark in points this season, all victories for the Bulldogs.
 
Five players are averaging 10 or more points per game for Union, with Wilson recording a 16.3 ppg average. However, junior forward Pedro Da Silva leads the team in points scored with 160 this season. Velasquez is second on the team in points scored with 146.
 
Da Silva also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 9.4 per contest (113 overall).
 
The game against AUM will be the fifth straight home game for the Bulldogs.
