AUM Drops Non-Conference Matchup With Tuskegee, 77-68

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Senior guard Reagan Eubanks scored a game-high 26 points for the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team but the Warhawks dropped a non-conference matchup with regional rival Tuskegee, 77-68, on Tuesday evening on the campus of the Golden Tigers.
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 8-13 on the season while Tuskegee improves to 4-16.
• TU's victory avenges a 68-66 setback to the Warhawks on Nov. 22 at the AUM Gymnasium.
• The Warhawks are now 10-3 lifetime against the Golden Tigers.
• Junior guard Desmond DeRamus scored 10 points in the setback, and now sits at 995 for his career.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Eubanks reached the 20-point plateau for the third time this season, going 8-16 from the floor and 9-10 from the charity stripe. He has scored in nine of the 10 contests he's played in this season. Eubanks also tied for a team-high in rebounds with seven.
• Senior center Jarett Croff tallied 12 points and seven boards for the Warhawks, adding a block and an assist.
• Sophomore guard Darrion Taylor scored 10 coming off the bench for AUM.
• TU's James Eads scored a team-best 21 points with teammate Travis Flagg adding 20 to the Golden Tigers' total.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The Golden Tigers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead before Reagan Eubanks put the Warhawks on the board with a running layup at the 15:39 mark in the first.
• AUM would cut the lead to 23-21 on a Darrion Taylor 3-pointer with 5:44 to play, but the Tuskegee would respond with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes, leading 32-23 with 2:37 on the clock.
• TU would eventually gain its largest lead of the night on a pair of made free throws late in the half to take a 40-29 lead into the break.
• Eubanks scored the first basket of the second half to cut the TU advantage to single digits, but the Golden Tigers would go on a 20-9 run over the next 10 minutes, leading 60-42 with 9:35 to play.
• A DeRamus free throw would cut the TU lead to 67-58 with 3:19 to play, but the two teams would trade buckets back and forth before finally the Golden Tigers earned the 77-68 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• TU outscored AUM 42-28 in the paint.
• AUM was outrebounded 41-33
• Both teams made five 3-pointers.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks return to Gulf South Conference play on Thursday, Feb. 1, when they travel to Clinton, Miss., to take on league foe Mississippi College. Opening tip is set from 7:30 p.m. on the campus of the Choctaws.
