MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will host Gulf South Conference foes Shorter University and Lee University this upcoming Friday and Saturday, respectively, as a part of AUM Family Weekend on the campus of the Warhawks. About the Warhawks
AUM is currently 9-9 on the season with a 0-7 mark in GSC play. The Warhawks are 3-3 at home, however, and have already match last season's win total with 12 matches to play. Friday's match with Shorter kicks off a three-match home stand, concluding with non-conference foe Emmanuel College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Warhawks are led offensively by junior outside hitter
Sommer Rhea, who has tallied 154 kills this season. Rhea also leads the team in digs with 159. Senior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin has also eclipsed the century mark for kills in a season, tallying 113 thus far. Garvin also leads the team in attack percentage with a mark of .315.
Senior
Carly Smart currently ranks eighth in assists amongst GSC setters with 365 to her credit this season. Smart also leads the team in service aces with 23 on the year.
AUM is 0-1 against both Shorter and Lee in program history, playing both teams on the road last season.
About the Hawks
Shorter is currently on a two-match win streak but are 0-4 on the road this season. They are led offensively by junior outside hitter Annie Homan, who has tallied 127 kills this season. Tinsley Fain (255) and Kendall Vondra (189) have combined for 444 assists while splitting time at setter, with Fain leading the team in aces with 10.
Libero Emily Wilson leads the team in digs with 231, which is good enough for third place in the Gulf South. Alicia McClellan leads the team in blocks with 27 (10 solo) and ranks seventh in the conference with in blocks per set with 0.90.
About the Flames
Lee is 3-3 in road matches and are coming off of a 3-1 setback to Emory University this past Wednesday. The Flames will play #13 West Florida before coming to Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.
Senior outside hitter Silvia Sartori leads the team and is second in the GSC in kills with 280 on the season. Sartori is one of four Flames that has 100 or more kills this season, with teammates Bailey Kress and Alex Reuter tied for second at 149. Hanna Matthews has amassed 608 assists from her setter position, which is also second in the league.
Defensively MaKayla Beebe leads the GSC in digs with 383, as the senior libero averages 5.98 digs per set.
