Second-Half Surge not Enough for Women’s Basketball in Setback at Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team outscored Tuskegee University 26-22 in half number two of their contest on Tuesday, Nov. 20, but it was not quite enough, as the Warhawks fell to the Golden Tigers 49-41. 
 
With the loss, AUM's record drops to 0-4 on the season. 
 
Standout Performers
- Jordan Brewster tallied a team-high 15 points on the night, while also accounting for two rebounds and one assist.
- Evelina Avleeva pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, to go along with nine points scored and a team-best five assists. 
- Bailee Wolfe also recorded a team-high eight boards in the game, with a team-best two steals and two assists. 
- Aaliyah Milord added seven points, in addition to registering one block, one steal, and three rebounds.
 
How it Happened
- The Warhawks saw their largest lead of the game come within the first two minutes of the contest, when Morales's layup gave AUM a 4-1 lead with 8:01 to play in the first.
- With the score at 7-6 with 5:19 left in the first, the Golden Tigers would go on a 7-2 run to end the quarter up 14-8.
- The Warhawks cut their deficit to just three points with 5:10 left in the half, but the Golden Tigers would once again use a scoring run to pull away, going on an 11-2 run to give themselves a 27-15 lead at the break.
- An even-keeled third quarter saw AUM outscore Tuskegee 12-11, highlighted by an 8-2 scoring run by the Warhawks to end the quarter and build momentum heading into the fourth.
- AUM tallied a game-high 14 points in quarter number four, while holding Tuskegee to 11. 
- The Warhawks drew to within nine points on two separate occasions in the quarter, with the latest bringing the score to 44-35 on a Wolfe three-pointer with 4:33 left to play. 
- The Golden Tigers, however, would hold their ground and build their lead back to double digits before a 4-0 run from the Warhawks would give way to the final score of 49-41. 
 
Quoting the Coach
"I'm proud of our effort that we showed in the second half," Head Coach Sean Page said. "Our defense has been giving us chances to be in games, we just need to find more effective ways to consistently score."
 
Inside the Boxscore 
- The Warhawks shot 32 percent on the night (18-56), highlighted by a second half that saw them shoot 42 percent (11-26) from the floor.
- AUM held Tuskegee to just a 28 percent (9-32) shooting efficiency from the field in the second half, while holding the Golden Tigers to just a 2-13 shooting night from the three-point line. 
- The Warhawks got 10 points contributed from off of the bench, while holding the Golden Tigers to zero.
