Baseball Begins Series Against Tuskegee With 4-1 Victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team began a two-game weekend series against visiting Tuskegee University on Friday evening, besting the Golden Tigers 4-1.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 5-2.
• Tuskegee drops to 1-8.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Redshirt-sophomore righty Hank Scott got the start on the mound for AUM, holding TU to one run off six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work for the victory.
• Senior shortstop Nathan Langley went 4-4 at the plate with one run scored.
• Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Khoury went 2-3 with two runs scored plus a RBI and walk.
• Senior catcher Parker Moman went 2-4 with a RBI.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Brett Lightsey tossed the final two innings, holding Tuskegee off the scoreboard to get the save.
• For Tuskegee, Ryan Reed and Gabriel Selochan post recorded two hits while Trey Nelson struck out nine batters over 6.0 innings with three runs allowed, one earned, off seven hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, using a double and single from Khoury and senior first baseman Curtiss Johnson in back-to-back at bats to plate Khoury and put the Warhawks up 1-0.
• AUM added to the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on a Tuskegee throwing error by the catcher to the third baseman with the bases loaded to score junior right fielder Aaron Hill.
• Leading off the sixth with a walk, Khoury rounded the bases for the second time off a two-out single from Moman.
• Tuskegee cut into the separation in the seventh inning, starting the stanza with a single from Selochan who later scored off a two-out double by Keldric Burton.
• The Warhawks recreated the three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh, leading off with a double from Langley and platting him on a Khoury single.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the contest with nine hits, two going for extra bases, and two walks. Tuskegee tallied eight with one extra-base hit.
• The Warhawks left seven runners on base versus three for the Golden Tigers.
• Tuskegee had two errors in the contest, both leading to AUM runs. The Warhawks had no errors.
 
UP NEXT
AUM and Tuskegee conclude the two-game series on Saturday, Feb. 17 with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
