Men’s Basketball Falls To Christian Brothers On Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Looking to remain in the hunt for a berth in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament, Christian Brothers University upended the home-standing Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team 83-61 on Saturday afternoon on senior day at the AUM Gymnasium.
 
NOTES
• AUM is now 9-18 on the year with a 5-14 mark in league play.
• CBU improves to 19-8 on the season and 11-8 in the GSC.
• This was the second meeting of the season between the two schools, with AUM earning a 77-68 victory over the #5 CBU on the campus of the Buccaneers.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior guard Lafayette James-Core tallied a team-high 19 points with two rebounds, an assist and a steal for AUM.
• Junior guard Desmond DeRamus recorded seven rebounds and six assist to lead all Warhawks.
• CBU's Joe Laravie recorded a game-high 26 points and pulled down a team-best six boards.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior guard Marcus Jackson put the Warhawks up by five with a fastbreak layup at the 15:07 mark in the first half to give AUM a 10-5 advantage.
• Adam Dieball would tie the game with a pair of free throws to even the score at 13-13 with 12:21 in the first.
• The Bucs would go on a 16-3 run over the next five minutes capped off by a Brad Miller 3-pointer with 8:34 on the clock.
• AUM would cut the lead to 32-28 with 1:13 to play in the half on an OJ Merriweather layup, but CBU would score the final six points of the half to take a 38-28 lead into the break.
• The Warhawks would cut their deficit to 54-47 with 14:01 to play on a Kenneth Keith 3-pointer, but the Bucs would respond with an 11-4 run over the next four minutes to go up 65-51 with 10:52 on the clock.
• The Buccaneers would distance themselves down the stretch, pushing their lead to 22 points and avenging their loss to Warhawks earlier this season.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• CBU converted 15-of-19 free throws in the contest, while AUM converted 3-of-5.
• The Bucs outrebounded AUM 40-30.
• AUM's bench outscored CBU's 27-17.
• Christian Brothers hit 14 treys while AUM made eight.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will host West Georgia in the final game of the season for AUM on Thursday evening. It will be a White-Out at the AUM Gymnasium, as fans are encouraged to wear white to show their support. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m. between the two teams.
