Softball Drops 5-1 Decision To North Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Playing in their final game at the Gulf South Conference Opening Weekend Festival the Auburn Montgomery softball team fell to North Alabama 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Lagoon Park, finishing the tournament with a 2-1 record.

NOTES
• AUM is now 5-2 on the year with a 2-1 mark in league play.
• UNA improved to 10-2 overall with a 3-0 record in the GSC.
• Sophomore pitcher Chanel Newcomer (2-2) was credited with the loss for the Warhawks, while Megan Garst (4-1) picked up the win for the Lions.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Third baseman Hannah Dailey extended her hitting streak to five games and her run scored streak to six, going 1-for-3 with a run scored today.
• Centerfielder Amy Persinger drove in the only run of the day for the Warhawks on a groundout to short.
• Newcomer allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts.
• UNA's Hannah Shollenberger blasted a home run and drove in two runs for the Lions, going 1-for-2 on the day.
• Centerfielder Bailey Nelson went 1-for-3 for the Lions, with three runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With one out and one on in the bottom of the first, Shollenberger put the Lions on top with a blast to left field that plated Nelson from second.
• Dailey would lead off the second with a single, would steal second, then advance to third on a fly out to center to reach third, setting up Persinger who grounded out to the shortstop to get Dailey home.
• A pair of errors by the Warhawks, one a fielding error and one a dropped fly ball, would allow two runs to score for UNA as they took a 4-1 lead into the third.
• With runners at first and second in the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Shelby Woodard would single to center to plate Nelson from second, pushing the UNA advantage to 5-1.
• AUM would only manage one more hit the rest of the way to drop their first GSC contest of the season.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
