Late Runs Propel Baseball To Doubleheader Sweep Of Spring Hill College

MOBILE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 5-0 victory in the first contest before rallying for a 3-2 triumph in the second.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 2-1.
• Spring Hill College drops to 1-2.
• It is the second-straight season AUM has begun the campaign with a 2-1 weekend series win over Spring Hill.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Senior infielder Nathan Langley went 2-2 with a pair of RBI and three walks
• Junior shortstop Josh Flowers went 2-4.
• Junior infielder Jonathan Brandt went 2-3 with two runs scored.
• Senior catcher Parker Moman went 2-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
• Senior outfielder Tanner Russell and junior outfielder Aaron Hill each all logged one RBI.
• Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Hank Scott got the start, earning the victory with 5.0 innings of scoreless baseball and only three hits allowed.
• Freshman Sam Steigert tossed the final two innings without allowing a run to score to get the save
• For Spring Hill College, Grayson Williams, Brennan Fontenot and Justin Collier all recorded a hit. Austin Barrios got the loss, allowing one run off four hits in 4.0 innings on the mound.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• AUM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, using a double from Moman to send Brandt, who reached base with a single through the left side two batters earlier, home.
• The Warhawks added to the lead in the sixth inning, as Brandt led off with a double and latter scored on a single by Langley. AUM platted one more run before the end of the inning with Moman scoring on a fielder's choice to create a 3-0 lead.
• AUM tallied a pair insurance run in the seventh, as junior outfielder Matthew Zielonko scored off a SHC error and Hill later rounding the bases off a double from Langley.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• AUM finished the contest with 10 hits, SHC tallied three.
• AUM did not have an error while the Badgers had two.
• The Warhawks stranded 12 batters versus six for the Badgers.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Langley posted multiple hits for the third-straight game, going 2-3 with a run scored and walk on top of earning the win on the mound after logging 2.1 scoreless innings.
• Sophomore catcher Kyle Khoury went 1-3, with his lone hit sending the tying and game-winning runs home.
• Senior first basemen Curtiss Johnson went 1-4 with a RBI.
• Redshirt-junior Connor Smith got the starting nod, tossing 3.0 innings with one run allowed off four hits with one strikeout.
• For Spring Hill College, Brennan Fontenot went 3-3 while Hunter Romero went 2-4 with a pair of RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• SHC scored in the opening inning off a single by Romero that scored Gavin Crimmins.
• AUM knotted up the score 1-all in the third inning off a single from Johnson, scoring Langley who led off the inning with a walk.
• The hosts retook the lead in the fifth, as Latour was hit by a pitch to get on base and later scored off a single by Romero to make it 2-1.
• With two outs in the top of the seventh, Flowers singled to right-center field. A costly error by the Badgers on the ensuing at bat kept the Warhawks alive and put runners on first and second, with both touching home plate on a triple by Khoury which put AUM up 3-2.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• AUM finished the contest with seven hits while the host posted eight.
• AUM committed one error versus three for the Badgers.
• The Warhawks stranded nine batters, SHC left eight on base.
 
UP NEXT
AUM continues its season-opening road swing on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Georgia Southwestern. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
