MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Going into the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 9-6 on Wednesday afternoon, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team used a leadoff home run from junior infielder
Jonathan Brandt to spark a four-run frame, resulting in a 10-9 walk-off triumph over the visiting Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 9-11 overall.
• Georgia Southwestern State drops to 3-16.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior third baseman
Logan Nix went 2-3 at the plate with his first home run of the season, two runs scored and a walk.
• Junior right fielder
Aaron Hill went 2-5 with a run scored and RBI.
• Senior first baseman
Curtiss Johnson hit his first homer of the campaign while going 1-4.
• Brandt went 1-4 with three RBI to go with his team-leading third home run.
• Senior center fielder
Donovan Chandler drew two walks and scored one run with one RBI.
• Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Danny Caldwell (1-1) earned his first win of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
• For Georgia Southwestern, Kole Clark went 3-4 with a triple, four runs scored and one RBI while A.J. Hayes (0-2) got the loss after allowing four runs off three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Leading off the contest with a hit by Jason Baita, Georgia Southwestern moved him to second on the ensuing at bat before a single from Josh Logan sent the Hurricane home. GSW added one more run in the stanza, using a sacrifice fly from Jared Jones to score Clark and make it 2-0.
• AUM cut into the separation in the bottom of the first, opening the stanza with a walk for Chandler with a single from senior second baseman
Nathan Langley moving him to third before a sacrifice fly by Brant platted the senior, cutting the deficit in half at 2-1.
• GSW added to their lead in the top of the third, using a two-out triple from Jones to score Andy Moore to create a 3-1 edge.
• A one-out solo home run from Johnson in the bottom of the fourth cut the gap back to one, 3-2.
• Loading the bases with no outs in the top of fifth via a pair of walks and bunt single, a sacrifice fly from Jones scored Clark to make it 4-2.
• Leading off the bottom of the fifth with a double, Hill touched home plate on a fielder's choice to make it 4-3.
• The Hurricanes added four runs to their lead in the top of the sixth, loading the bases to start the stanza off two singles and a walk before a single and throwing error allowed Skelton and Long to score with a Shea single and Moore groundout allowing Shea and Clark to score, creating an 8-3 separation.
• AUM scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, Loading the bases on three-straight walks before a walk for Chandler and balk by the Hurricanes' pitcher platted Nix and junior pinch runner
Brandon Baynes to make it 8-5.
• Nix connected on a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, making it 8-6.
• GSW got a one-out triple from Clarke in the top of the eighth, sending him home on a sacrifice fly from Logan to give the visitors a 9-6 advantage.
• Leading off the frame with a solo home run from Brandt, Friesen and junior second baseman
Harrison Morris reached base via a single and walk to put the game-winning run in the batter's box with no outs. A fielding error by GSW allowed Friesen to score while a two-out single from Hill scored knotted up the score by scoring Morris. A fielding error by the visitors allowed sophomore catcher
Kyle Khoury to score the game-winning run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied nine hits while Georgia Southwestern had 13.
• The Warhawks left seven runners on base, GSW stranded eight.
• Both sides recorded two errors, with both of the Hurricanes' coming in the final inning.

The baseball team returns to the AUM Baseball Complex on Thursday, March 15 against Valdosta State in the first of a three-game Gulf South Conference series starting at 6 p.m.
