MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball team split a doubleheader with Gulf South Conference foe Lee University on Friday afternoon, falling in game one 6-4 before earning a 7-0 game two victory at Butler Field on the campus of the Flames.
NOTES
• AUM moves to to 15-10 on the season with an 8-9 mark in league play.
• Lee moves to 17-17 overall and 8-9 in the GSC.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior
Kalee Sparks went 5-for-7 on the day, with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
• Freshman
Michaelyn Foster was 4-for-6 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in another.
• Sophomore
Chanel Newcomer tossed a four-hit shutout in game two for the Warhawks, striking out six Flames on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• The Flames scored first on a bases loaded ground out to second that plated a runner and gave Lee a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first.
• AUM tied the game in the fourth on a bases loaded hit by pitch by Foster, that scored Sparks from third.
• Lee would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth plating three runs highlighted by an Abby McKinney single up the middle that scored two runs.
• First baseman Taylor Moran homered to right-centerfield in the sixth to push the Lee advantage to 6-1.
• The Warhawks' first baseman
Kendall Tucker would drive in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a double to left-center to cut the Flames' lead to 6-3. Catcher
Abby Krueger would single up the middle to score another run for AUM, but could not complete the rally as they fell 6-4.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• AUM scored four runs on seven hits while committing two errors.
• Lee scored six runs on five hits with one error.
•
Natalie Johnsey was credited with the loss for AUM to fall to 2-5 on the season. Johnsey threw 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on three hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.
• Lee's Leigh Beatenbough improved to 7-6 on the year going 6.1 innings. Beatenbough allowed four runs on seven hits with nine K's in the contest. Shonna Penney earned the save recording the final two outs of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• AUM broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third when Sparks singled down the leftfield line that plated
Gracie Harris to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Krueger would then single to right-center with runners at second and third to give AUM a 3-0 advantage.
• The Warhawks would plate three more runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by doubles by Harris and
Jaycie Walker to give AUM a 6-0 lead.
• Foster would hit a single to center on the top of the fifth to plate
Morgan Duschell from third and give the Warhawks a 7-0 advantage.
• The Flames would go three up three down in the bottom of the seventh, giving AUM the game two victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
• AUM scored seven runs on 14 hits with no errors.
• Lee was held scoreless on four hits with two errors.
• Newcomer improved to 8-4 on the season with the win.
• Penney got the start for the Flames in game two, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work to fall to 7-7 on the year.
