CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Auburn Montgomery softball earned an 8-7 victory over Gulf South Conference for Lee University on Saturday afternoon, as it took eight innings for the Warhawks to win the contest and secure the 2-1 series victory.
NOTES
• AUM improves to to 16-10 on the season with an 9-9 mark in league play.
• Lee falls to 17-18 overall and 8-10 in the GSC.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore slugger
Jaycie Walker went 3-for-3 at the plate with her first home run of the season. Walker also drove in two runs and scored another.
• Freshman
Morgan Duschell was 3-for-4 offensively, with two RBI and a run scored. Duschell also stole home in the top of the seventh.
• Freshman
Gracie Harris went 3-for-3 with three runs scored for AUM.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Jaycie Walker led the game off with home run to right field to give AUM a 1-0 lead in the first.
• Lee's Bailey Church gave the Flames a 3-1 lead with one swing of the bat, blasting a three-run home run to left-centerfield in the bottom of the third.
• Kayla Gooch increased the Lee lead to 4-1 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, knocking the first pitch she saw in the at bat over the outfield wall.
• AUM would get a pair of runs back in the fifth, scoring on a
Kalee Sparks single to right and a
Parker Pinholster hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
• Walker would tie the game in the top of the sixth with a single up the middle that plated
Gracie Harris.
• In the top of the seventh AUM would take a 5-4 lead when
Morgan Duschell stole home to give the Warhawks a 5-4 advantage.
• The Flames would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game on a Gooch walk. AUM would be able to get out of the jam as the two teams prepared to go to extra innings.
• AUM loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, then took the lead on an
Abby Krueger ground out that scored Harris from third. Duschell would then hit a single with two on and two out to give the Warhawks an 8-5 lead.
• Lee would not go down quietly, as first baseman Taylor Moran homered with one on and two outs to cut the AUM advantage to 8-7. However, the next batter popped out to Harris at second to give the Warhawks the extra inning victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM scored eight runs on 13 hits while committing two errors.
• Lee scored seven runs on eight hits, with three players hitting their first home runs on f the season.

Chanel Newcomer improved to 9-4 on the season with the win. She allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in eight innings of work.
• Shonna Penney was credited with the loss in relief for Lee, allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings of work.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will host non-conference foe Clark Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex in a twin bill set to begin at 2 p.m.
