CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Despite holding Lee University scoreless in seven innings of a Gulf South Conference series finale on Saturday afternoon, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team could not overcome a three-run inning by the hosts in a 3-1 setback.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 11-16 overall, 4-11 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Lee improves to 16-14, 9-6 in GSC action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior shortstop
Nathan Langley went 2-5 at the plate with a run scored while logging 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball on the mound with five hits allowed and one strikeout.
• Redshirt sophomore designated hitter
Hayden Friesen went 2-2 in the batter's box.
• Senior catcher/third baseman
Parker Moman went 0-3 with a RBI.
• Freshman right-handed pitcher
Sam Steigert (0-2) got the start for AUM, allowing three runs off six hits in 3.2 innings with two strikeouts.
• For Lee, Jordan Howard went 2-4 with two RBI while Jumpei Akanuma (3-1) got the victory after holding AUM to one run off four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over 6.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Lee got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, leading off with a Miguel Pimentel double and later scoring the first run of the contest on an AUM throwing error. The hosts added two more runs to their lead in the frame off a two-out double from Howard, scoring Dalton Ney and Fernando Ortiz to take a 3-0 advantage.
• AUM cut into the separation in the top of the third, opening up the stanza with a Langley single and sending him home four batters later off a sacrifice fly by Moman to make it 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied five hits while Lee had 12.
• The Warhawks left 11 runners on base, Lee stranded eight.
• Both sides recorded one error.
