Softball Travels To Montevallo On Friday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball will travel to the University of Montevallo to play a three-game series beginning on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader followed by a single game on Saturday, as the two teams will battle for the first time as members of the Gulf South Conference.

About the Warhawks
AUM is 16-10 on the season with a 9-9 mark in GSC action. The Warhawks have won four of their last five games, including a 2-1 series victory over league opponent Lee University this past weekend.

Sophomore outfielder Jaycie Walker now leads the team in batting average with a mark of .358 and is tied for the team lead in hits with 24. Walker also leads the team in total bases with 41 and slugging percentage with a mark of .612.

Senior outfielder Kalee Sparks is also batting over .300 on the season, with a mark of .304. Sparks also leads the team in multiple hits games with seven.

Sophomore hurler Chanel Newcomer leads the team in wins and earned run average, having amassed a 9-4 record on the year with a 1.85 ERA. Newcomer also leads the team in strikeouts with 62.

The Warhawks are 1-2 lifetime against the Falcons, earning an 8-5 victory in 2016 before getting swept in a doubleheader by UM last season.

About the Falcons
UM is currently 22-8 this season with an 11-7 mark in league play. Montevallo is currently on a five-game winning streak including a series sweep of GSC opponent West Georgia this past weekend.

Three Falcons bat over .400 for the season, with senior Kelsey Vining leading the way with a mark of .495. Vining leads the team in hits with 46, slugging percentage with a mark of .677 and on base percentage with a mark of .551.

Junior catcher Lady Sarah Federico leads the team in runs batted in with 25 and has tallied 10 doubles on the year while batting .415. Darbi Duke leads the team in runs scored with 37 while hitting .456.

Junior pitcher Alexis Bonanno is 7-5 on the year over 15 starts and leads the team in strikeouts with 54. Bonanno is tied for the team lead in ERA with Abbey Pratt with a mark of 3.23.

The Warhawks will host non-conference foe Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, April 4 in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
