Softball To Host West Alabama This Weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball team host Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama this weekend in a three-game series beginning on Friday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex, as the series was pushed up a day due to the threat of inclement weather in the Montgomery area over the next few days.

About the Warhawks
AUM is 10-5 on the year with a 5-4 mark in GSC play. The Warhawks are currently on a three-game win streak and have won four out of their last five games, including a 2-1 series victory against league foe Delta State. AUM swept non-conference opponent Blue Mountain College 5-1 and 1-0 in a doubleheader this past Monday to reach the 10-win mark this season.
 
Freshman infielder Hannah Dailey leads the team in batting average (.368), hits (14), runs scored (15), walks (13) and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases (11) and runs batted in (8). Senior outfielder Amy Persinger is tied for the team lead in RBI with eight after notching her first home run of the season against BMC on Monday.
 
Sophomore hurler Chanel Newcomer picked up a win and a save against the Toppers on Monday, a day after she tossed a complete game two-hit shutout against Delta State on Sunday. She matched her career-high in strikeouts with seven against BMC in relief and then struck out a pair of batters in the top of the seventh in game two to secure the win for AUM. On the year Newcomer has recorded 37 strikeouts over 41.0 innings pitched to lead all Warhawks.
 
AUM went 3-1 against the Tigers last season, earning a doubleheader sweep at home before splitting a twin bill with UWA in Livingston later that season. The Warhawks are 5-1 lifetime against the Tigers and are 3-2 at home this season.
 
About the Tigers
UWA is currently 6-16 on the season with a 2-7 mark in league play. The Tigers are coming off of a series sweep by Valdosta State at home, and have dropped six of their last eight games overall. They are currently 2-3 on the road and 4-10 in neutral site games.
 
Nicole Buccieri leads the team in batting average (.340) and hits (16) with teammate Audrey Diekmann leading the team in RBI (13) and home runs (3). Diekmann also leads the team in total bases with 27 and slugging percentage with a mark of .587.
 
Kamree Lee leads the team in appearances with 15, earned run average with 3.48, and strikeouts with 24 from the circle, while teammate Carleigh Mills leads the team in innings pitched with 45.0 and starts with eight. As a staff the tigers have a 4.44 ERA with opponents batting .286 against them.

The Warhawks will host GSC opponent Valdosta State next weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 17. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday for the twin bill followed by a single game beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
