MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman shortstop
Michaelyn Foster went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in from the No. 9 spot in the lineup while fellow underclassman and No. 8 hitter
Abby Krueger went 2-for-3 along with two RBI in Auburn Montgomery's 7-1 victory over Christian Brothers University in Gulf South Conference softball action on Friday evening at the AUM Softball Complex.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 25-15 on the season with a 15-13 mark in the GSC.
• CBU falls to 9-35 with a 1-27 record in league play.
• With the victory the Warhawks take game one of the three game series.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• The three hits and two RBI were career-highs for Foster.
• Krueger's two hits were also a career-high for the freshman.
•
Jaycie Walker went 1-for-3 with two RBI on a triple and a sacrifice fly.
• Pitcher
Chanel Newcomer allowed one run on two hits with nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bucs drew first blood in the contest taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when first baseman Sierra Anderson singled to left to drive in leadoff batter Holly Oyhenart from second.
• AUM evened the contest in the bottom of the third when Walker hit a triple to right centerfield that scored pinch-runner
Jasmine Thompson from first. Third baseman
Hannah Dailey then laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Walker and give the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage.
• With runners at second and third in the bottom of the fifth Walker hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored pinch-runner
Kendall Tucker from third to give AUM a 3-1 lead.
• AUM would explode for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Krueger providing a two-out, two-RBI double to right field that plated
Gracie Harris and
Kalee Sparks. Foster kept the inning alive and drove in two more runs on a single to right to give the Warhawks a 7-1 advantage.
• CBU would go 3-up 3-down in the top of the seventh to close out the contest.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM scored seven runs on nine hits with one error.
• CBU score one run on two hits with one error.
• Newcomer improved to 13-7 with the victory. Freshman
Cydney Sizemore closed the seventh inning for AUM retiring all three batters she faced.
• Jenna Cotter took the loss for the Bucs, allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits, striking out five Warhawks in 6.0 innings of work.
